Neutral Light won’t come on when its cold

I have a 2005 Rancher with electric shift. When it is below freezing the neutral light won’t come on. I can shift through all the gears just fine but it won’t start since the light is not on. Once I roll it in the garage and warm it up the light comes on and it starts fine. However it does mean I can’t venture too far from my house if I can’t get it re-started.

I have checked the battery, replaced the starter and the neutral switch and it has not solved the problem.

Any ideas? Thanks

Wes

a heart colder then my ex ol lady .

1994 300 ex .. sometimes i can get it to run as long as i keep the throttle opened up maybe a min or two then it almost sounds like it backfires and dies.

i did just rebuild the whole motor , but i also went for a pretty good ride with it after i got it done .. so it did run after the rebuild

can the timing be off? if it was 180 off it wouldnt start ?

it would be wierd if the carb was messed up now .. because its always been cold hearted but i could get it to run before just had to get it warmed up a little

i did replace the cam in the rebuild because we lost the other one ( long story ) just a stock cam

what woudl you check if you were me ? im out of ideas.

Ignition Pulse Generator

On many of the Honda ATV models, the ignition process is initiated by the Ignition Pulse Generator, which is located near the stator. The pulse generator is cruicial, because without it, you have no ignition. In spite of its importance, I have never seen it mentioned in these forums. Why is that? I am hoping that Rurouni20xx will comment on this subject because if anyone has encountered the pulse generator in their experiences, he has.

Do we not hear much about the pulse generator simply because it is so reliable that it hardly ever fails? Does it degrade over time? I’ve never heard of anyone adjusting the gap. Is the gap adjustable? Is it possible for the pulse generator to malfunction slightly, causing the engine to run rough, and we interpret that to be caused by the carb or something else? Does the pulse generator ever get wet and what happens when it does? If an ATV goes into deep water, is it likely that the pulse generator will be affected? If so, can it be dried out, or must it be replaced? Should it be replaced after a certain amount of time as a matter of routine maintenance? Are there any other quirks that are nice to know about the pulse generator? I would like to improve my education in this area.

HELP!! 02 400ex

HELP!! This might sound stupid but I’ve got an 02 400ex and we think it’s burning oil. There is nasty black stuff leaking from about the middle of the motor and getting worse. When it’s running we can see it like oozing out of the motor. Not sure what to do. Can anyone help?

2008 Rancher 420 ES question

I’ve researched a few threads but didn’t find the answer I need, so here’s where I’m at. 08 Rancher 420.
I bought the bike cheap knowing it needed some work
She’s in 5th gear, won’t shift up or down.
I replaced the shift motor and shift harness. Didn’t help
I’m reading the grease issue, will that cause this problem.
I hooked up the shift motor off the bike and it never moved/no power when I press the buttons.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
