The battery keeps going dead. New battery, ignition off, key out, lights off and no winch on atv. If I don’t disconnect the battery tonight- when I try to start it the next morning, it’s dead as a door knob. Been doin minor troubleshooting. Should I have 2 hots at the ignition with the ignition to off and no key? Thanks.

Im tearing my motor down to prepare for the top end gasket set and throttle/clutch cables ill be receiving soon. also ive never inspected the internals and i know several other things were rigged up that ive already repaired (bought used). So i have several questions that may turn into a wall of text really fast but ill try to separate into paragraphs.
I wanted to remove the motor from the frame to sand down worn and rusty spots and paint it. It looks like there is a long bolt through the valve cover, the swingarm, and 2 motor mounts at the bottom is this correct? I have 2 of the 3 out but i didnt know if i had to remove the swinger to remove the motor.
It has leaks at the valve cover and the head gasket and a few more im currently tracking down. Hence why im getting the gaskets. The valve cover had 2 stripped bolts when i got it and i stripped 2 more. I have retapped these so the leaks may just be the old oil stains now. Also there are i think 4 round caps, NOT the big hex ones on top for adjusting valves but on the SIDES of the valve cover that take an allen wrench. I dont know what theyre for but one of them leaks around it. Any ideas?
Anyways, i know to check the head to make sure its level before i just install a gasket. If its warped i need it decked. I checked it with a framing square and it appears perfectly flat to me but i wanted to know how tight the tolerances are. Would any warpage be clearly visible to me with a plain straight edge or could it be so small id need a micrometer to check it?
Im also inspecting the cylinder and piston while i sit on the fence about boring it, what exactly do i look for? Piston has black crud on it, cylinder walls look smooth and shiny no scratches, intake valves have black crud and exhaust valves are very light grey. Basically the intake valves look like a rich spark plug and exhaust valves look like a lean one. Is this normal? Im attaching a few pics to help out.
Thanks in advance, im just trying to cross all t’s and dot all i’s, i already dropped a washer from the head stud down the ‘dont drop stuff down this hole’ hole that the timing chain disappears into. Failed to retrieve with magnet. Pics coming
So I got this wheeler new in 2003 an it has been risen HARD, wrecked a lot and not well maintained while I was teenager. It has been sitting in a barn for 5 years and I finally have a shop to store it and use it at my home. So I replaced the battery and it started right up but ran rough so I decided to tune it up clean carb etc.
It was spitting gas out of the intake so I decided it was a good idea to adjust the valves. I’ve aligned the timing mark 20 million times and I still have no play in the rocker arms. I don’t think its on the compression stroke though. So my question is should I go ahead and try to adjust it? Also I’m not entirely clear on where I am supposed to place the feeler? Does it go directly below the nut?
We have installed a new chain on honda TRX 90 2011 and the adjust screw is screwed in all the way but the chain is still loose ( the chain is the correct size for the atv) seems when they put the chain on maybe have not tightened or put the parts back in correctly I have searched everywhere for a video and or manual could not find anything for the atv Im trying to teach my 13 yr old to fix the atv himself and Im having a difficult time myself to find what the problem is is there anyone out there that could help. I tried to upload video and couldnt figure it out. tried uploading from my computer no luck
What’s up everyone? New to this forum and I like it… I’m very mechanically inclined in automotive (union Carpenter by trade) but just a basic guy when it comes to offer road machines. So I just picked up my boy (9yrold) this 250.. so my question is…THE CARB IS PASSING GAS OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF IT. I TOOK IT ALL APART AND CLEANED IT REALLY GOOD.. FLOATS MOVE FREELY, BUT CAN’T FIGURE OUT WHY IT IS DOING THIS? DOES IT NEED A NICE REBUILD OR SHOULD I JUST GET A NEW CARB CAUSE THERE SO CHEAP REALLY.. (CAUSE OF TIME TO REBUILD AND TUNE IT’S ABOUT THE SAME MONEY) THANKS LD.. looking forward to hearing from you and getting more involved. !!!
My 07 Honda foreman runs just as it should if i keep it dry, it’s fine in snow also. But when I drive through a river during hunting or drive through very wet areas, the engine slowly shuts off once i release the throttle. It’s starts back up all fine and once I start giving gas to drive again, it usually coughs once or twice and then I could drive again until I release the throttle again.
So basically when I’m not giving enough gas, the engine sputters and shuts off.
It only happens when I go through water though. Is there water getting in the fuel somehow?
I have had this quad for 30 years now. I began taking it apart to clean it up and paint it eight years ago, it has been sitting since. Now I am trying to get it up and running again. I bought a brand new battery and hooked it up when I turned the key on I had no lights or rather nothing happening at all. I tested the battery and checked numerous areas for power and there were several places with power including the battery. The one area I do not have power is, near the front end. I have a plug that isn’t connected, please see attached photo. I have no other wires that are just hanging out there. A friend used a paper clip on the one plug that isnt attached to anything in the middle of the photo (white) and when he did this the lights came on by the ignition and the starter kept clicking over like the quad would normally try to start, which was a nice sound to hear. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks
So I was riding my 300ex today and when I turned it off the neutral light and reverse lights wont come on. Neither will the headlights. Already checked the fuse.
