I bought a brand new 2014 Rancher 420 AT in October of last year. For some reason here lately it occasionally bogs down to the point where it almost chokes when you give it gas.
It’s done it once or twice before but never really been a problem, but here recently it’s been doing it more frequently. Any ideas on what could be making it do it?
Also, it only has 130 miles on it and it’s completely stock so I wouldn’t think it would be anything major wrong with it just yet, and no lights or anything have come on either. Could it be something to do with the EFI?
What is with the crappy front brake pad design on the 420’s? Pins for the pads to slide on?
I went to put new pads on the wife’s AT. The pads sliding on pins is asking for trouble on an off road vehicle, and the brake pads I bought wouldn’t go on the outer side because of lack of clearance between the metal bracket and the rotor. I’m hoping this is because of the cheap pads I bought and not the design.
I put the new pads on the inner side of the rotor and had to put the lesser worn OEM pads on the outside of the rotor.
Anyone else have trouble getting the new pads on or did I miss something?
Ok guys so my last thread kinda died out so decided to start hopefully one last thread to account for my couple questions. Please guys if you know a thing or two about this stuff just chime in or if you have a 400ex then yeah help a kid out lol… Anyway so just wondering what you guys think of this jetting set up: 2002 400ex all stock except a current K&N filter with precharger (prefilter) airbox lid on, stock exhaust. had stock 148 and 38 jets in it from previous owner (he ran it with the K&N and stock jetting i presume) I ordered a Genuine Keihin 152 and 155 Main, as well as a 42 Pilot. What do you guys think?

Alright, so as I was pulling the cylinder off of the piston on my 2008 400ex, im guessing i pulled it an an awkward angle that might have put a horizontal scratch into the cylinder wall, or maybe it didn’t happen while I was disassembling it, either way it concerns me. The scratch is noticeable, even though it is the width of a hair. You can run your fingers on it and feel it. What should I do at this point? I dont want to put in a brand new piston and rings and god forbid the ring gets caugh on it and breaks.
The scratch is where the cylinder looks discolored closer towards the bottom. I captured it as best as I could.
The problem I’m having is with the piece that goes inside the rubber boot. With it in, I can’t get enough cable even with the spring compressed to connect everything.
Do I really need that piece in the boot? I tried installing with out it and it works just fine, but I’m worried that this could damage the boot.
I’m about to do my first top end rebuild and two very similar head gaskets came with my top end gasket kit. One is paper and the other metal do I use both of them and in what order or do I pick which one I want to use and scrap the other?
I got an 02 foreman 450 givin to me in terrible shape, i put a new carb and plug and hoped to atleast get it popped off, no luck at all. I checked the timing and its spot on, chain is pretty loose. So i decided to tear down the cylinder and look at the piston, the rings were stuck in the grooves and the cyl had minor surface rust. Could the rings being that bad cause the bike not to start. Im ordering new piston and gasket kit and hoping that will help it, should i change the tensioner and chAin while in it
I just shimmed my valves a month and a half ago, I rode it a ton, but not enough that think i would need to adjust my valves again. I did that last night. I keep my air filter clean after every ride, so anyone know why they went out so quick?
Second question is that I am on my last shim so i cannot go any lower. After it happens again what all does the job entail? I know ill need new valves and springs but is any head work neccessary?
