1985 Honda Trx 250 not shifting

Hey guys just bought a 85 Trx 250 today that doesn’t shift gears! apparently its locked in second from what I am told. I have the right side case off and can see nothing wrong visually. any ideas? you can pull up on the shifter and it does "snap" like its going into another gear but feels like it doesn’t quite engage. it will not allow any downshifting movement at all any help appreciated

Sigh…metal shavings in oil

85 trx250a

Picked this thing up 6 months or so ago. It was in a barn for probably 5+ years, but engine rotated freely and felt like it had great compression. I rebuilt the carb, chamged engine and diff oil, rebuilt brake adjusters, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, brake cables, etc. got it running ok, checked compression and was 160 cold, so within spec. After I had it running, I noticed a slight tick so I checked the chain tensioner and adjusted the valves. The valves seemed to be within spec, but I readjusted anyhow. The noise seemed to go away and engine sounds good.

Fast forward to about 2am this morning. The drain plug is stripped so I was going to fix it. I drain the oil and out of habit, I look in the oil and see quite a few metal shavings. I refilled with new oil and ran a compression check and it is now reading 150psi cold. Engine still runs smoothly, not sure what might have happened. So I am guessing my next step is tearing the engine down. Any ideas of what to look for?

I forgot to mention. On the first oil change I did. I checked the old filter which was installed correctly, but was slightly collapsed and I did find one or two small shavings in the old filter which had me concerned at the time, but nothing like this. The old filter was installed correctly and I made sure I installed the new filter correctly. With all the shaving I found now, I could not find a single shaving in the oil filter. I didn’t tear it apart since I didn’t have a spare to replace it with.

Straightening a bent rack.

Has anyone had good success with straightening a bent rack? My rear rack was bent from the previous owner tipping it on its side. The support bars that come from the frame are not bent, just the rack itself. I plan to take it off and see if i can straighten it.

Anyone have a good method for this? My plan is to remove it from the ATV, heat the 2 spots where it bent and try using a crow bar or another method to bend it back

Transmission help!

I have a 1985 trx125 that I just purchased. I had a mechanic look at it and he noticed that one or more of the transmission gears are ground down and the quad will not move. I did find a set of gears for a 1987 trx125. Can somebody tell me are these the same or do they have to be from 1985-86 years?

2007 honda foreman 500FM running lean

Sorry guys haven’t posted in a very long time been too busy at school, but I need some help I am rebuilding this foreman 500 I rebuilt the topend with new timing chain piston and rings, it never ran good before i rebuilt it it would bog down cough splutter and never ran properly so a rebuilt the carb and put it on and started it today and it ran really hot and popped through the exhaust and airbox, I put the old jets back in making no difference it pops out the exhaust on deceleration and I can feel the heat from the exhaust, it has no air leaks from what I can tell and the carby has no adjustment the pilot screw tis like a half moon shape so I can’t turn it and the needle has no grooves to move the clip.

anyone got an idea what I should do motor is stock no mods

here is a vid of what it sounds like (the motor is quiet its just the echo of the popping in the shed)
