Shifting Issue

Ok so i bought a 2010 Honda Rancher TRX420ES 4×4 with only 300 hrs on it a few weeks ago. The guy said it wouldn’t shift. It was giving me a code for the shift angle sensor. So i did alot more looking around on the bike and noticed that the rats or mice had eaten some of the wires around the pce board under the seat. So I changed out just that one connecter ( the Black One in the middle ) checked to make sure they would ome out ( which they did). Now my code went away, I was thinking awesome problem fixed. No i was wrong the problem is still there just doesnt show it self for a few minutes. Now i have noticed that when it stops shifting that my transmission light will flash and then stay on and even though i cant change gears i can still ride back to my house or camp but i cant tell how fast im going cause it want register the speed nor change gears. If i wait about an hour it will start working again and then a few minutes later stop again. Now all that being said I have been told it is in my wiring harness, Pce board or speed control sensor. At this point im open to any help I can get.

04 250 es recon shift problem

I’ve got a 04′ 250 recon that will not shift. non of the shift lights work to give me a code. the angle sensor was broke, so I took it off and replaced it with a new one. I don’t know what would be keeping my lights from working on the shift panel. The thing will start and run fine using the manual shifter, but that’s a pain. any ideas of where to start would be appreciated.

07 trx 400ex gearshift problems

I have a ’07 Trx 400ex that will only shift up to 2nd gear. I took t apart and split the case. The shift drum will shift fine with your hand, however, when i try to use the gearshift plate the shift it, it will not. Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

01 400ex idle screw maxed but won’t idle.

I’ve been searching everywhere but I can’t figure this one out. So a little back story: I got a good deal on this quad with no compression. Somebody forgot one of the dowel pins for the cam bearings and the cam walked over and broke the sprocket and chain. So I bought a 440 kit and a new head and pulled some left over parts from an old build. Got it all back together and I’m having a few issues that I’ve never seen but right now my main problem is that I cannot get this thing to idle without giving it a quarter or so on the throttle lever. The idle adjuster is maxed out and it won’t idle in this position. I HAVE to give it more throttle at the lever to get it to just barely idle.

Stock carb. I’ve tried 38, 40, and 42 pilot jets all with no effect on idle. I cleaned the carb very well and installed a fresh rebuild kit with brand new Keihin jets. The choke lever has been removed. (and plugged) Accelerator pump works perfect and bike starts easy cold or hot. (As long as I give it a few squirts)

K&N filter with holes drilled in lid, snorkel tube plugged off

Fresh 440 kit from Niche Industries (Ebay) advertised 10:1 ratio. This piston is flat top I’m not sure if it’s actually 10:1. it seems to be 9:1. Compression test shows 120 psi so either it’s low or not 10:1. I haven’t been able to give it a proper break as I have yet to get the carb tuned because of this idle issue.

Fresh head from Niche as well. Used valves.

Here’s the other strange issue I’ve having. I noticed when it is running, it has a slight oil leak from the head cover gasket towards the exhaust side, just above the header. After shutting it off and cleaning the oil and letting it sit over night, I came back in the morning to find that it continues to leak very slowly while not running. When running however, it leaks faster and I can even see very small bubbles coming through the oil. Not sure if there’s compression blow-by pressurizing case. The gasket must be bad, although it looked to be in perfect shape and I used a spray on copper based gasket sealant.

Anyway, thanks for reading and thanks for any tips or thoughts on the carb issue. I took the carb off and I’m going through it one more time to make sure everything is clean! I’m stumped!

Transmission Problems???

I have an 02 Rancher 350, manual shift. My problem happens when the bike is cold, i have no power in any gear. When i put it in first and give it throttle it will rev way up and barely start to roll. Once it gets rolling and i shift into 2nd its the same story, it revs way high probably about 75% of throttle and then it finally grabs and feels like the clutch engages and i have power again. Same for 3rd and 4th. This happens until the bike is warm. Seems like a tranny problem or clutch issue?? not sure how to tell. has anyone had a problem like this?

1997 honda foreman 400

Hello, I just changed all bearings in my front differential on my 97 foreman 400.
Got it all back together and have road it about 400 miles. Last night was driving on the road and started hearing a squeeling noise and the left driveshaft is popping out of the dif. i I then pulled on the right shaft and i can pull them both out of the dif withouth taking anything apart. I am wondering if the c clips that pop in there are bad? has anyone had this problem?

93 300ex problem.

okay guys,

my buddy owns a 93 300ex, and he was riding it today, and she all of a sudden shut off, and we can not get her started again.

I tested the battery and she reads over 12V, i jumped the soliniod post with a screw driver and got nothing, I even jumped 12V directly to the starter and nothing.

Now what weird is, when we put a battery charger on her, the green N light would glow brighter, and the solinoid would click when hitting the start button, but when we take the charger off, the light dulls, and the solinoid won’t click.

any help would be great, we also tried swapping my computer, and rectifier(the thing with fins on the back near the battery), and still got no change.
