Valve lash ticking

Hello all, some of you might remember i just did a rebuild on my 400ex, hoping it would fix the ‘ticking’ in the top end. I have come to the conclusion that this ticking is actually the valve lash caused by the hot cam that is installed. are there any valve adjustments that are out of spec that would fix the ‘ticking’? or do i need to buy performance valves and springs?

1992 Honda 250x trx

Hey guys I have a brother in law who has a 250x. This last fall it seems like the ATV doesn’t have the power that it use to. This four wheeler use to have enough power in first gear to buck you off. I completely redid the carb and changed the spark plug. Still didn’t help. The oil has been changed and has new gas. Anyone have any idea of the problem? Maybe cdi box and coil? Seems like when you put it in gear it doesn’t rev up like it does in neutral. Thanks for all the help.

2001 Honda Rancher 350FM (front end question)

Just traded a Colt Commander for the Rancher not a bad deal to get me around in the deer woods a little easier as I grow old. I’ve been going through everything on it to check it out and over all it’s just been road around on a farm. Motor and transmission are all fine.. But after looking at the front end and pulling everything off including the knuckles. The bearings where the original ones and they where toast. Got a set of all balls and and they just slid in the old knuckles not good. So I got a new set of front knuckles with stock Honda bearings included, Got it all back together and the problem with play from 12 to 6 is fixed and tight.
Now I have play from the 9 to 3 and it’s still at the knuckle (about a 1/8" of play) most will say the tie rods are toast, but as I look at this I don’t see a bad tie rod at the knuckle or at the base of the steering tie rod.
My next step I think is I should replace the piece on the back side of the brake drum that goes inside of the middle of the smaller part of the bearing race.
I’m puzzled but not stupid.

Thanks

dried out

My 88′ trx fourtrax 300 2×4 is running great but when I let it sit overnight it will not start unless I spray carb cleaner, starting fluid or etc.. in the air box it runs great after that and idles good etc.. I rebuilt the carb a couple summers back, I wondered if maybe the float was letting the gas siphon through and emptying the bowl. Any ideas?

thanks’
Dave

How much play should be in a 2000 recon axle?

Had to put my recon on jack stands yesterday to remove the left rear wheel. Had to knock back in the axle oil seal cover (metal washer looking thing). When I leaned on my axle, noticed the opposite wheel moved just a little. Movement was more noticeable if the moved the axle up and down than side to side.

How much movement is considered normal? Noticed the axle had a large sticker on it, axle world or something like that…thinking it has been replaced. Axle has some rust on it so if replaced has been a while ago. Went to removed my differential inspection bolt (to check fluid level) and the bolt head rounded then corners using my 17 mm deep wheel socket (only one that would fit, six sided). Thinking been a while since anyone has opened this thing up.

Before I go tearing everything apart, how much play in the axle is ok? Recon is a 2000, solid rear axle.

So my cousin is looking to buy a wheeler tmrw and we have a couple options. Theres a Honda 450 foreman s with great tires and its in great condition just needs brakes bled. then theres an 02 Polaris sportsman 700 v-twin with 1000 miles but needs front bearings done. He says the shop told him its $125 to fix. Im obviously a Honda guy but I wanna see what everyone else has to say especially about the front bearings how big of a job that would be. Thanks
