Front diff ????

Hey all….question about the front diff. I’ve seen all the pix of blown apart pinion covers and what, but I have a different issue. I was doing a moderately steep climb yesterday and was in low with awd engaged. Almost to the top I gave about 1/2 – 2/3 throttle and got some front end hop prior to the crest. I herd an odd sound and now my awd doesn’t work.

My rig is a 09 850 xp, stock motor and suspension with 27" swamplites. I have a little over 1200 miles on her. I bought it new in April 2010 and have had basically no issues since new.

I jacked up the rear of the quad and put it in awd. My rear tires spin as they should, I see the front drive shaft spinning, but my front tires do absolutely nothing. I then sat the rear down and jacked up the front up. I left it run with awd still engaged and can manually turn both wheels independently. I then put it in park and can still free wheel the front tires. The cv shaft doesn’t appear to have any abnormal play. I do notice the front pinion tail has some up and down movement when manually spinning the front wheels.

I’m not 100% familiar with the front ends of these as I’ve never had it apart, but any thoughts on frequently broken parts or areas to check first? I’m guessing since I have a front pinion that I can see spinning, but nothing from each side of the diff, that I have something in the diff that is blown apart?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

2015 Sportsman 850 SP- Glacier Pro Plow Mount

Let me start off by saying I’ve search the forums and haven’t found a definite answer, even called Polaris which was even less informative. I’m looking to purchase the Polaris glacier pro snow plow system for a 2015 sportsman 850 SP. As I understand it I need 3 parts, 1- Plow, 2- plow frame, 3-mounting plate. Looking at the Polaris website under accessories for my year, make and model I understand the plow and plow frame, but the mounting plate is what I need feed back on. The site lists plow mount Item #2879632, looking at the picture and the "integrated mounting" system that I have on my ATV(2015 sportsman 850 SP ) doesn’t seem right. I don’t see how this mounting plate would fit my model. The mounting plate for the 570, seems more of a match but the website site says it will not fit my year/make/model (everything lines up, even the rectangle holes in the back of the plate). Has anyone purchase the Polaris glacier pro snow plow system for a 2015 sportsman 850 SP that has the part #’s? In the past I had the tusk system from Rocky mountain ATV ( was very happy with it) but would prefer the Polaris glacier pro for my new ATV. Also I’ve watched the YouTube videos of the mounting plate for my model (not listed) on the Polaris website being sub-par and that a new mounting system was being developed.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

XP850 – Battery Issue

So I am quite certain I am losing my mind. I have been having some issues with my quad this weekend. The battery seemed really low and I had to jump start to get the thing running. I am storing it high in the mountains where it is exposed to the cold and rain. It isn’t uncommon for a weak battery to show issues in these conditions. Anyways, It ran most of the day, but was still having issues. So I pulled the battery out and cleaned all of the connections. When I reinstalled the battery, I got nothing. Despite there being some charge in the battery, the quad was completely dead. No power at all to the quad.

I don’t think it is a connection issue, as I cleaned all of the connections very well. However, one thing has me troubled, so I need some clarification for my own sanity. The battery on my quad is under the seat (since I have the EPS). There are five connections to battery that run the quad and the winch. Two are clearly red and two are clearly black. The fifth one is the one I am questioning. It is a black wire, but has red electrical tape at the base of the connector. It comes out of the main wiring harness.

Does anyone know if that wire is a negative or a positive? Could this be my issue? I swear it was on the negative lead, but now I am second guessing myself. Can anyone help me out with this? Maybe a picture of your battery with all of the connections showing? I swear this issue is causing me to lose my mind.
