ADC on ’15 and newer XP/SP Machines
Had a chance to get familiar with the ADC mode on my ’15 850 today. Qiuite different than the system on the ’10 550 I had. I like it better.
Minor Issue on a 2010 850xp
The off idle throttle response is kind of sluggish, requiring a blip of the throttle to get it to take off without sputtering or occasionally stalling. Also a popping when backing up, figuring that is probably a half shaft getting ready to die. one more thing, the wife was on it for a few hours and did a shit ton of idling, then i took off on it hauling ass and it blew a huge smoke screen for nearly a mile. anybody with experience with issues like these on their 850 xp?

Rear hub has a little play in it?
At first i thought it was the a-arm bushing but a closer look and realized it was the hub assembly. I grabbed the hub at the top and bottom and wiggled it and it seems like maybe its play in the bearing. Anyone else have this issue.

Cant get secondary shim fix.
Ok i have a 2012 850xp and my secondary clutch came with four shims and very difficult to shift. I tried removing shims one at a time and the secondary still spins at idle. I even tried adding an extra washer to give it five shims and still the same. I hit the brake and it stops then as soon as i release it the secondary starts spinning again. It spins in neutral and in gear. Do I need to add more than five shims or is there something else wrong. I sure would like to fix this as it is very annoying trying to shift gears. The primary has the red spring in it , dont know if that makes a difference. There is no clutch kit installed.
Superwinch Terra 35 install w/ Polaris mounting bracket
First, thanks to everyone for the help recently. It certainly helped the install last night. Anyway, thought I’d share my install. I replaced my original Polaris 2500# winch with the Terra 35. I wanted to try and use the Polaris mount and it did work…with some slight modification. The Polaris mount was the original when I bought the machine new in 2012 (550 XP EFI). First, I had to install the Terra upside down and 180 degree from the orig Polaris to insure the cable is coming in under the spool. This of course made the wiring go to the driver left side. The Terra 35 does not fit the orig Polaris mount without some slight modifications. On the front inside of the mount there are 2 welded on nuts that were going to be in the way of sliding the Terra in. These will not be used on this install, so I used my angle grinder to cut out. A little hard to get the grinder in there, but I was able to cut half way through and chiseled it out the rest of the way…it was pretty easy. You can see the holes where they were from in the front view pic under the fairlead. Next, the Terra housing was about 1/8" too big to slide into the mount. The only parts that would impact this were the excess body on top of the winch where the bolts go across the spool. After eyeing it up, I realized I could hit those parts (4 total) with a bench grinder and it fit. You can see this from the 2 side views. It was a tight fit, but with some gentle hammering, it slide through. I did have to make sure the carriage bolts for the fairlead were in BEFORE sliding the winch in. There is not enough room to put them in after the winch is in. So, now I’m hooked up with the Terra 35 and hope it works as well as everyone says! Just thought this install might help someone in the future! Happy Trails!!
Winch install..Please help…still confused!
So I just got my new Superwinch Terra 35 to replace my broken Polaris 2500. I was reading the instructions and checking out my quad (2012 Sportsman 550 XP) to eye up how it will install. It appears the winch will be mounted upside down but then this causes the problem of the line coming in over the spool instead of under the spool. I’ve researched threads on forum, but I’m still a little worried. People say to un-spool and re-spool the opposite direction and then to switch the wires on the solenoid. By doing so, it will correct the handlebar switch for the "in" to actually come in. My concerns are is this true/correct? And, will this cause a problem with the internal brake when under load? And, will the free spool still work correctly? I do realize I can do a 180 degree turn when upside down to eliminate these problems, but currently all wiring is on right side of machine (when sitting on it) and doing a 180 will cause connections to be on left. Thanks for any help!!
