I bought this quad last fall. It would only start with the recoil because the guy I bought it off said the battery was dead. So this spring I put a new battery and starter on and I still can’t get it going. I checked for spark and fuel and I’m getting both. I can’t start it with the recoil because it’s not easy to pull. I checked my stator windings as per my shop manual. I’m supposed to have 446 ohms across green and black/red but I only have 241 ohms (exciter coil). Am I safe to think I need a new stator?

Just wondering if about 2" of play is normal in the 850’s. It doesnt seem like it should be. My girlfriend has a 500 and hers has no play in it, but mine has about 2" from center to either side before the tires start to move. My tie rod ends seem tight so i dont think thats the issue. Is there something i can tighten or is my steering box shot?
I made these using wheel chocks from Harbor Freight and aluminum flat & bar stock. Measured them out for my wife & daughters’ heights, so obviously not adjustable but work great for the $25 they cost to make.
Hey guys, today I picked up a what I believe is a 2002 sportsman 500 H.O. It has defiantly seen better days. I was told before I had gone to pick it up that all it was missing was a front strut and had an overheating issue, I figured that was quite the deal for only $500. When I had arrived the quad was on a pallet with both right side tires off the machine, I was then told that the machine is missing the carb, primary clutch, right side wheel hubs and the lower strut mount. I was told the engine had been rebuilt before being parked due to the over heating issue, and that the previous owners had thrown nearly $2000 at the issue before they decided to use it as a parts quad. I should mention it came with all four tires and the side plastics and the front and rear racks are broken. So I guess what I am asking is, did I make a fool of my self for purchasing this unit to try and fix up or should I just tear it down and sell it for parts?

Had to buy a complete new clutch due to a bushing messed up on my old one and I broke the inside pulley trying to pull it off. Anyway ended up buying the right puller. Anyway put the new clutch on along with a new belt, and it pulls great, but I can’t get it in gear, when I do get it in gear when I stop its still trying to pull and lugs the motor down and kills it. When I was messing with the old clutch we tried stretching the spring out thinking it would help. Anyway had to use that spring in the new clutch. My question is, me trying to stretch that spring changed the length of it, could that be the reason it’s pulling all the time?
I have this 2009 Polaris 850 which I had just purchased used, and the idle RPM is 1200. When I put it into gear nothing happens until I give it a little gas and bring the RPM to approximately 1600 – 1700 RPM; at this RPM it feels as if kicks into gear and kind of jumps and gets going very powerfully. Is this normal? Is the idle RPM supposed to be 1200? Can anyone tell me why this ATV gets into gear only at a higher RPM? Is this normal? Is there a solution to this issue? Is it supposed to jump?
Thanks,
Jim O.
I was wondering if anyone knew of how many grease points are on the 2015 Sportsman 850. Sorry for the newbie question, I am just struggling to find them.
What’s the best exhaust / muffler for a 2014 Sportsman 400? I do mostly trailing riding and muddying. Seems when the exhaust is just under water a little I have to keep in the throttle due to it sound like it’s about to quit because of back pressure. Thanks
