Prop shaft

Attempting to replace U joints in prop shaft of 2009 Sportsman 500 HO unable to get opposing C clips to seat. All needle bearings are in their place. Did notice on the short yoke side that all four caps had to be removed to allow cross to be installed in both yoke and shaft which was not the case on the long side. Called bearing manufacture to make sure corrects part numbers were purchased. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

3 Qs on price negotiations, ‘title safety’, and older Polarises

Ok another three questions to help me get up to speed on getting my first ATV…

1- It’s after the court clerk has closed and you’re standing there with the guy after your test drive and you’ve decided you really want the machine he’s selling, and if you don’t put cash in his hand now it might be gone tomorrow. So how do you know there’s not a lien on the title or that the machine is even his? Just wondering how you go about purchasing a machine and make sure you don’t get ripped off somehow title wise.

2- How much do private parties generally come off their asking price if they haven’t put something like ‘FIRM’ in their advertisement? Also, how much do dealerships generally come off their price?

3- I’ve been told to stay away from ten year old Polaris from a number of different people, but that they’ve come a long way since then. How old is the oldest Polaris I should consider buying used? Around when did they start to improve in quality?

Thanks

model # HELP

Hello all,
been awhile since my last post. I can usually find help or answers by doing a search and reading, but not this time. I’m in model number hell and need your expertise in the matter.

I have a Yellow 2004.5 sportsnman 600 model A04CH59AL, I bought 2 brand new in Sept 04.. Need a left rear axle assembly. Called many shops around me and when I read them my model they stumble over the "AL" and can’t find this model. I give them my VIn and they can confirm everything about this ATV but the "AL". I believe the "AL" is only related to body color (yellow) and sticker schemes. I called Polaris tech support to get the OEM number of the axle thinking I can use that to order an axle. Nope, Polaris can not find a OEM number for an axle to an "AL" model. They opened a ticket for me to the Polaris engineer dept, they told me it’d be 7 to 10 days before they get back to me!! CANT I just buy an axle for a A04CH59xx and it’d fit? I did find axles online but vendor wouldn’t garentee fitment because their axles are for AK, AN, AF, but not AL!!!

Researching the 04 models, it seems like…..
early 2004 are A04CH59AF, AH, AJ, AT,AV. and mid-years are A04CH59AL, AK, AN, AW, AQ.
DOES ANYBODY REALLY UNDERSTAND THIS MODEL NUMBERING? DOES THE LAST LETTER MATTER TO ANYTHING OTHER THEN PASTICS?
I’m headed to Wisconsin northwoods in a few days and would love to take my ATV.

Thanks all, sorry to ramble on but….

Seat sliding

I have a 06 800. It seems to be a very large gap, around 1′ between the gas tank and the front of the seat. It also seems to want to slide off to the right when riding. The plastic hooks barely slide into the notches under the seat which secure it to the machine properly. I’m just wondering if its the wrong seat for my atv. I know the seats have been issues for the Polaris.

Any battery suggestion

I just bought a 2015 Polaris Sportsman ETX and I would want to put some speakers and a winch. I’ve been reading about battery and battery tenders. Any suggestions or advice on a good quality battery that will hold all the extra accessories?
