hey guys, i am going to be snorkeling my 13 sportsman 800 and was wondering what you guys have done?
2 of my friends (one Yamaha and one can am) have bought kits for theirs and ended up making their own because they just didn’t go together correctly.
what do you guys think i should do?
some people have reported back good things on the triangle atv kit.
I’m thinking I need to rebuild my carb but wondering if it could be the fuel pump or both. I use this almost everyday to check cows and noticed it a few days ago when I popped a wheelie. At first I thought I imagined it sputtering after I brought the front end down so I popped another and held it up longer. This time it almost died but after a few seconds it ran as strong as ever. Tonight I had to winch myself out of the creek with steep banks to get it level so I could start it again. I rebuilt this carb awhile back and put a dynojet in it and never had a problem till recently. Am I right on my thinking that it’s possibly a stuck float. I’m not sure how the fuel pump works on these non efi’s and never had one apart but wonder if that could be an issue with it not being level as well.
I just bought my 1st ATV after borrowing everyone else’s. I got a 2015 sportsman 850 SP under advice from them.( hahaha though I was cool getting a new one over them) I came to a conclusion that i hate the new lock and ride system. Accessories that need tie down points with this system are gone. Is there a older tubular rear rack like the old style that will mount in its place. I have a sprayer that i use that won’t tie down unless you hook to plastic or make some contraption with plywood and eye bolt expandable anchor for everything.
Hey new to the forum. I have a 2005 sportsman 700 carb I’m having trouble with. Quad has a miss at low speed but clears up if you stab the gas. carb and has been rebuild and it has a new cool, problem still persists. I have read that some of these had a bad dukati ignition but not sure if mine falls in that category. Plugs, fuel filter, carb boot, vent hose all check out okay. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Looking at my old carb the needle jet is messed up on the slide and the carb just floods like crazy getting gas into the oil.
I’m thinking the needle valve Isn’t working properly and the seat must be worn.
Are the Ebay carb rebuild kits any good?
I just got a 1997 Sportsman 500. I have been going through it and discovered someone put a Mikuni BST 40mm carburetor on it. From what I understand, Polaris went from the 34mm to 40mm carb in 2001 with the 500 HO engine. The ATV seemed to idle ok and do good until about half throttle. From half to wide-open throttle, it would bog down. The carb has a 152.5 main jet. I can’t tell what the idle jet is. Everything else on the machine is stock as best I can tell.
My question is: Can i rejet the 40mm carb to work with the 500 engine (not HO)? Should I just use the same stock jet sizes from the 34mm or do I need to compensate since the opening is bigger (40mm Vs 34mm)?
Just bought 1998 Sportsman 400 and my 2001 Arctic Cat 500. 1,300 miles on the Polaris, 6,000 miles on the AC. They are about at the opposite sides of the spectrum, AC is manual shift, pulls like a bulldozer, use it to skid out logs, it feels almost like a diesel, not slow, but not something for wheelies. What little I’ve driven the Polaris, the little 2 stroke is a hoot !
