Sportsman 300 reciever hitch?

Hi everyone – new guy here.

I just recently bought an ’08 Sportsman 300 – I’m using it to get around on my property (mostly flat), and for my son to learn to ride on, before he moves on to something more powerful.

I’d like to use it to pull a small trailer with a generator and some tools around, but I’m not having much luck finding a receiver hitch for it. I know its not a powerhouse and not gonna pull much, but it should be capable of the little bit of pulling that I’ll be doing (all flat – no hills).

Everywhere I’ve looked, all of the hitches seem to be for the 400 and up, but haven’t had any luck finding one for the 300. Will the hitches for the 400 work on my 300 or is the frame different? I’m guessing that they just don’t recommend pulling with the 300, and so they don’t advertise hitches for it even though they will work, but I wanted to see what all of the experts here have to say about it!

Thanks!
JR

12 Sportsman 500 belt specs and ?

Does anybody know what a new Polaris Sportsman 500 belts width is? The original one on my dad’s is currently 27.74mm wide. I would like to know the width of a new belt so i can see if the original one is overly worn. I noticed when I removed the cover to deal with two other issues that the belt deflection is almost 2.5" and the specs should be between 1 1/8"- 1 1/4". Now even when this atv had low miles, 500 or so, the belt deflection was greater then the Polaris specs. My dad took it into a dealer and they were supposed to make the adjustments via the shims inside the secondary clutch but I checked once he got the atv back and it was pretty much the same. Even when I was talking to the service guy he had no idea what I was talking about like there is no adjustment on these atvs. Well there is and there are a few things that can lead to a belt with a lot of deflection. Shims in the secondary clutch and engine to trans placement are the main two. Now since this atv has never had either removed I believe I need to play with the shims inside the secondary. Unless his belt is really worn but like I said even when this atv had low miles the belt was super sloppy. Once I get a new bolt for the secondary I will measure the center to center distance between the two clutches. It should be 10.05" and if it is less then I know for sure it’s a mount or drivetrain placement issue. If anybody knows what the width of a new Polaris belt is please post the correct info. Thanks guys.

Help With Horn Install

Could use some help…..

Today, I tried installing the Polaris horn kit (P/N 2872897), purchased from Yellowstone Polaris, last week. I really need some help! Yes, I do have the instructions, but, they don’t make sense. I’m having the following issues:

1. Where does the horn actually mount? This is for a 2013 550 EPS Sportsman. I can’t make heads or tails out of the instruction pics.
2. The second step, in the instructions is to remove the front center cable panel. What is that?
3. Step 4 mentions plugging the red/white wire into the piggy back connector on the wire harness. It goes on to say the red and white wires are located behind the ignition key. This doesn’t make sense. See attached pics. I’ve pulled the headlight cover, the cover below it, and the front lock/load cover. I cannot figure out where this red/white wire plugs in. Nor do I see a piggy back connector on the ATV’s wiring harness in the headlight pod.
4. Step 5 talks about attaching the brown ground wire around a bolt on a coil under the center cab panel. Again, where is this?
5. Step 6 is to secure the push button switch, to the handle bar, using clamps. As in a C clamp? Won’t this damage the switch?

Polaris Horn Kit above

Front of ATV – Does it mount somewhere here? No harness connection points that I can see?

Head Light Pod. No piggyback connector I can see…….

Another View of the Headlight Pod…..

If you’re thinking I’m clueless; you be right……….

Air Intake for ’08 Sportsman 800

Does anyone know the part number of this? This is the part where the Intake Air Temperature/Barometric Air Pressure Sensor (T-BAP) installs. Instead of writing it down, I took a photo of it and it didn’t get the whole number and my ATV is 2 hours away.

Thanks.
