I have a 97 sportsman 500 and only get spark when i let off the starter button. Put a new cdi box and coil on it . What should i check next? Please someone help me lol

I started a thread about this yesterday but seems to have been removed so here it goes again with a little more info!

On Monday past the other half and I were out for a ride and at about 45 kms from our truck our machine over heated. As title states its a 2013 Sportsman500 HO Touring. So when it over heated I shut it off and tried turning the key forward to run the fan to help in cooling…the fan did not come on!! So basically we were pretty much stranded. So I cut about 2 to 3 feet of the cord off my 12v tire pump and stuck 2 ends in the fan plug and plugged it in to the 12V outlet and success…the fan worked.

Got her home and figured that since the problem is not the fan then maybe the 50V relay is the problem. Got a new relay from my dealer at almost $60, put it in and still the same….overheating.

Now I need help, I don’t know what to touch next. I’ve searched other threads but still unsure what to check. Any suggestions are certainly welcomed!

Hi I just purchased a new sportsman 850, after I put it in H, L, or R gear
And go to give it throttle it sounds like a knock before it starts to move

I thought maybe its idling high but its only at 1200-1250rpm
Dealer said its normal during break in?????

Just finished replacing the head gasket on my 97 Sportsman 500, fired it up, ran for 10 seconds then it died. No spark, did my tests and found bad readings coming from the stator. Pulled it apart and a magnet broke off the flywheel and tore up the stator and pick up coil. Now I need to replace these 3 items.

I see this is a common problem after searching the forum, I am being told that my 97’s flywheel is not interchangeable with 98 and up. It says FF95 on it and has the exposed magnets. A new one is $389 and has enclosed magnets. Does anyone know if its true that I can only use a flywheel off a 96 or 97 500?

I was wondering if anyone has put clear coat on body plastic to hide scratches and fading. I was told the Krylon fusion for plastic will work. If any one has done this I would like to know the results? Answers and advice would be appreciated.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if my 02 sportsman 700 has a gasket in between the manifold and head. I took it off and there was no gasket. Looked on bike bandit.com and it did not show one for that year. I seen them on the later models

hi guys, just picked up a used 2004 sportsman 500, has a bad front axle u joint , with the bike in neutral shouldn’t i be able to turn the axleby hand to be able to reach pin thats has to be removed to pull axle out, both front wheels are off,
