Dissapearing Gas Gauge

About two months ago I bought a used 2014 Sportsman 850XP. It has the full digital display and I’ve noticed that while I’m riding, the gas gauge will completely disappear leaving a large blank spot on the screen. It usually comes back within a matter of minutes and restarting the machine does not seem to make it come back on. I’ve also checked the connection to the display and after disconnecting and making sure it is clean, which it was. Then reconnecting it and making sure that it was properly connected. This didn’t fix the problem either. I haven’t done anything else since it pops back up within a few minutes and really hasn’t caused any major issues for me. I’m just curious if anybody else has experienced anything like this and hopefully get some thoughts on what I should try next to fix it. I don’t have any pictures if it at the moment but I will try to remember to take a picture of it next time it happens and post it. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Pics

Every time I try to upoload a pic it won’t do it. Either to a thread or to my avatar. I’m sure it’s because they are too big but I’m using a Mac Book Pro and don’t know how to shrink it lol

question about winch placement on an ’04 400

So I just picked up an ’04 Sportsman 400 and I dont really see anywhere to attach a strap to the front of it for recovery or towing.

My thought is to weld up a strap attachment point to a piece of plate and mount it where the winch would normally mount. I kinda spent all my winch money buying the sportsman.

My question is, does the winch mount on this model in the area indicated on the picture? That seems like the only logical spot for it to me. Would this location be strong enough for towing if needed?

Thanks.

Melted fuse block

I have a 2011 Sportsman 500 HO with a melted fuse block. The local dealer said the block was so corroded that it basically melted into itself. This atv has less than 800 miles on it. Anyway they wanted almost $1000 to fix it. They said that the fuse block is actually part of the main wire harness. So the whole harness needs to get purchased. Part is $450 and another in $500 in labor. Does anyone know if this sounds right? Is there ways around this. Some kind of in line fuse or another option. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Clutch rebuild expenses vs. new clutch

Now with the 2004 700 running again, I’m noticing it has no bottom end power. Applying the throttle, it sits there forever until finally pulling out.

Belt is the easy answer, and I’ll order one tonight. But what about the clutch?

Seems there are so many specilty tools required to rebuild the clutch, it might be a "Break-Even" to just buy a new clutch.

Watched the EPI video, and looks like there is a need for a clutch holding tool, compression tool, specialty spider tool, special socket to remove the nut holding the spider, etc, etc.

If you have rebuilt a clutch, did you need all these tools?

The EPI clutch spring kit didn’t look too bad, but actually rebuilding the clutch seems like a loit of tools need purchased. For the individual, hopefully only need them once. So kind of a waste.

Thoughts on the rebuild or a new clutch?

2004 sportsman 700 efi clicking noise

So we finally got some snow here in Buffalo and I was able to get the 700 out to plow for the first time. Wet and heavy snow and it seemed to do just fine. One thing I don’t like is there is no 4×4 in reverse?? So when I finished the driveway I dropped the plow in my garage and decided to have some fun in the snow. After doing some fishtails and doughnuts I drove it down the street and heard a clicking. Sounded like it was coming from the front left. Sounded like metal on metal maybe? Couldn’t see anything loose or anything. Any help?
