2014 Polaris Sportsman 550eps, 60 hours, 700 miles. I couldn’t be more disappointed. I went trail riding last weekend, after a day or so I noticed it didn’t want to start without giving it gas. It would idle rough and want to stall. After it warmed up everything seemed fine. I figured it was just a fouled plug.
I took it to the dealer, they changed the plug, checked the air filter, flashed the computer and all the basic stuff. Still had the problem. I’ve read posts on the forum about potential valve issues with the 550. They want $260 to adjust the valves, not including parts if needed. If that doesn’t work, they say they will need to inspect the piston rings etc for another $500, not including parts. Worse case scenario, I’m out $1200. Anyone else have a similar problem? What was the outcome? What would cause this on a new quad? Any advice?
P.S. I won’t even get started on the power steering issues I’ve had,(and continue to have) you can read my previous posts for that. LEMON.
Having trouble with Sportsman 500 2013. Just replaced the starter solenoid and now the starter motor runs constantly without the key switched on. Have to disconnect the battery to get it stopped. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Could the new part from polaris failed?

I have an 06 and an 07 Sportsman 500 EFI that I bought. Unfortunately, the PO wasn’t completely honest and I need to do some work on both. I’m looking for good service / repair manuals for both (hopefully PDF). Can anyone give me some direction or assistance? Thanks in advance.
Anyone know if I can bolt on the front pipes from a 02 or newer 500 on to my 97 500 so I can use a newer muffler? I can get mufflers for the newer bikes much cheaper than I can find one for my 97 so I was wondering if I can just swap over.
So my group tends to ride all day, and shiny blue cans may or may not come along with us. I have been looking for a cooler solution for the ride that would be big enough to keep a significant amount of drinks and ice but would be secured to the four wheeler without the use of bungee straps. This is something I came up with. I rode with this about 5 times now, and it keeps hanging on.
Cooler included, this was all probably about $40.
Needed parts:
2xturnbuckles (Lowes, $2.00 each)
2x ceiling flange (Lowes, $2.00 each)
2x threaded eyelets for ceiling flange (Lowes $4.00 each)
Miscellaneous nuts/bolts/washers to make it all come together.
Optional-rubber furniture stoppers for bottom of cooler ($5.00)
I have been looking for a cooler with strong enough tie down points and a locking top (other than strapping my real yeti up there). This is more or less a proof of concept, but the way it is working, I may just keep it the way it is.
The cooler I have does not have a locking top, so I run a bungee across the top. It seems to work quite well. The cooler does not slide, tip, rattle, etc. I was apprehensive at first, because the cooler has weak tie down points by the handle, but I have dogged it and it hasn’t broken yet.
Does anyone know if 26 bighorns originals will fit on a 2008 sportsman 800 touring on stock wheels with no issues? Do I have to stay with 25s. I have no interest in new wheels just looking to put 26 bighorns or pxt on. any advice would be appreciated.
hey, I am new here, so don’t beat me up too bad. I have a new Sportsman 850 and I want to put a snorkel kit on it, everyone around me wants to charge $700.00 bucks to do it. I have found a kit on line for $200.00 but, I am pretty sure I can find the same parts for a lot cheaper at Lows or Home Depot.
my problem is, I don’t know exactly what to get, or how people have done it in the past on the 850.
if someone could please help me or post some picks of how they did it, I would greatly appreciate it.

First off, I’m new to the group and just wanted to say hello. Now for the problem, I just noticed this oil leak yesterday. What is behind that cracked cover and what kinda mess am I looking at here??
