I’ll be driving around and it will get boggy, if I stop and come to an idle it will either low idle around 800 rpm or it will simply stall out. If it stalls out, I will start it and it will run fine immediately after. If it doesn’t stall out the low idle will eventually clear itself within a few seconds. I can drive around fine for a bit then it will do it again. I have a flat 2 acre yard so I’m not working it hard. No warning lights showing on the display.
Things I’ve checked or done:
I have a fuel psi gage attached and when it sputters or stalls the psi remains around 38 psi
I checked the tps and it is at .710 dcv at idle
Pulled the plugs and they are golden brown
Fresh gas
I asked a couple of days ago about this:
I can’t get into the diagnostic mode on my 2006 Sportsman 450. I think it’s because it’s not showing what gear I’m in. Where is the switch that controls this. Can it be cleaned or does it need replacing.?
jardaman17 answer directed me to the problem. However it is more than just a bad switch. The connector that that plugs into the switch evidently was caught by something while riding (I’m guessing) and a couple of wires were pulled out of the connector. I have attached a picture. Is there any where that I can get this female end with pigtails without buying the entire wiring harness? I’m a pretty good wire splicer and solderer.
My HO 500 HO Sportsmen is in storage 3 hours from where I live. I want to replace the battery. What type and size do you recommend? I want to buy one and install it when I take it out of storage at the duck club.
I tried the search feature but didn’t come up with anything that really helped.
I have an 08 sportsman 800 with several aftermarket items that greatly affect the fuel mileage. I am lucky to get 50 miles to a tank. I was looking at the manual and noticed that the touring edition is a 6 gallon tank where the sportsman is only 4.1. I have never really looked up close at a touring model but I thought the only difference was in the back end to accept the other rider. Can anyone shed some light on the subject as to dropping in a touring tank to get a little more range??
Hi,
My quad is not working now and apart.
I took my pump out like 3 times and the sending unit works well, so thinking saturated float. It looks like a ceramic looking float.
How can I dry it (rice ?)
Or buy a new one the same ?
thanks
Ok my 4×4 is not working ,so I have checked almost everything and the clutchs are not to be activating. I have checked all the electrical and its good ,the magnets are both working ,but the clutchs are not grabbing ,my question is,,,, Could it possibly be the hubs? and is it possib;le for both hubs to be bad at the same time . I had a hilliard clutch issue when I first bought the bike ,I had 3×4 ,I changed the hilliard and it was all back to 4×4 ,now I’m 2×4 . Any other thingsI should be looking at,don’t want to spend money unneeded.
Hello, I’m working on my cheap (problematic) 1998 Sportsman that I picked up a few months ago. I pulled the starter out to rebuild it and it won’t spin unless it is grounded to the frame, even with the positive and negative leads hooked up. Is this normal or have I put something back together incorrectly?
Even with this weird grounding it was working for a while but now it seems to be seized, I pulled the recoil cover off and I can’t turn the shaft at all. Going to go pull it out again and see why its binding.
Also, these things are a pain to work on, you have to disassemble half the machine to get at anything. Are other brands the same or are they more service friendly?
