2004.5 taillight help

Before I ask, I’m sure this has been beat up but I cannot find my answer after much searching. I have a 2004.5 500HO with a 1157 taillight lamp. I’m trying to save some power for accessories by changing it to LED. I tried a simple replacement 1157 LED lamp but it isn’t working. Do I need a resistor or does Polaris have some funky wiring? The harness is unmolested and it was even the original lamp. I bought the machine new. Thanks for any help!

fender flares

I am looking for suggestions for my 550 touring 2014. TheATV superstore has them but they are the smooth style and I don’t like the looks. Pure polaris has the ones I like but I can’t find them for a touring model.

2010 550 x2 won’t shift while running

Hello all,

New to the forum.

I have a 10 550 x2. Recently has become impossible to shift while the motor is running. I have read multiple threads on the issue, and I’m still trying to isolate the problem. Here is what I have so far.

Problem, once started in any gear, (H,L,N,R OR P) cannot shift to any other.
Have to shut the motor off and then it will shift to any range.

Things I have checked.

Idle RPM is correct.
Checked trains fluid level. Full but probably overdue for change.
Pulled PVT outer cover. Belt doesn’t appear to be worn. Drive and driven clutches appear to be aligned properly.
Belt appears to be centered in drive clutch.

Things I have noticed.
The driven clutch is turning way to fast at idle.
When I jack the rear end up it will shift through the gears while the motor is running, only when there is no resistance..

Any help would be appreciated. Only thing I’m unsure of is what to look for is belt wear. I’m a solid auto mechanic and know the obvious signs. Cracks splits etc.

Thanks, Cliff

2011 Sportsman 850 Touring – just purchased

Hello everyone. I’ve been in search for a big bore sportsman XP model for awhile, not wanting to buy new yet not wanting somebody’s beaten machine. Search paid off and finally found one. A lot of flipping back and forth on a used 850 or new 570. A semi-local deal arrived and the machine checked out maintenance wise and runs great, isn’t beat. Its a 2011 850 Touring. It was priced right with 150hrs and 1311 miles, 2500lb winch, and a Glacier 60" steel blade plow. I wanted the XP LE or Touring LE model specifically, well known of the timing gear issue, frame issues, and ball joints/bushings. I specifically wanted a 2012+ for the 78 horsepower, but I can easily live with the 7 horsepower loss. Seems to be less timing gear issues with ’09/’11 also, at least reported online.

It rides great and is comfortable. So far so good. It is not an LE model, but since it has the dual A arms, 850 engine, and 14" wheels I assume it is the XP chassis, can I call it an ‘XP’? Or do I refer to this as an ‘850 Touring’? It has the regular plastics, not the nice glossy automotive type.

Plans are to get hand warmers, a reverse purpose LED bar, and probably a forward bar. Also the Cree frame braces, and the aluminum diff. cover. After that probably some aesthetics. I do like the ITP SS312 wheels. Would like to put Kenda Bearclaw HTPs on it also, just factory size. Perhaps a QTP clutch kit.

It also has black panels along side the seat. I really don’t like that. Is there blue replacements I could put in without having the current ones painted? The only regret with this machine is it isn’t the LE shiny model. They don’t seem to have the side panels in black like this one does.

Tranny Fluid Change on ’04 Sportsman 700

Changing tranny fluid on my ’04 Sportsman 700. The manual seems inadequate at best. Attachment shows where I am located that oil should be put in at…nothing like manual shows. I’m concerned because the manual says 13.5 oz fills it to the bottom of the filler plug threads. I have put in probably near 20oz and still it is not up to the bottom of the filler plug hole.

Am I using proper fill hole? What is the real proper measurement? IF I have too much in there do I have to drain it all and start all over?

This should be a simple change…should be…it’s not.

Also I see on here where people say on front and rear to not fill front and rear diffs to fill holes as they say in manual, but then say if you do it is not harmful. What’s the general consensus on that?
