thought this might entertain people, my grizzly has over 3000 miles and still is as strong as an ox. fyi, the property is a friend of my dads, amazing view of the straights near hoodsport wa. though.
Me and my dad went out and rode our local forest trail, Pike National Forest, about a mile down the road from the house….its sweet!
First off, the erosion from all the rain is horrendous, the trail is in horrible shape with all the gullies and trenches. Its pretty much turned into an expert trail, it takes really good judgment and throttle control in these conditions. Fortunately the soil was wet, so traction was great!
For it being a Saturday, traffic was really light, only met about 6 motorcycles and 2 quads the whole day, that was nice!
We did 43 miles and most of this trails stays right around the 9000 foot elevation mark.
My Grizz took 2.4 gallons on the 43 miles and my dad’s 700 took 2.75 gallons. That’s 18 mpg for me….happy with that!
The 3.1 ratio is really nice for the slow speed high range riding, keeps it in the power-band, no bogging down.

My folks took the Arctic Cat TRV out today and naturally I joined them. We went out to 4-Mile, which is just to the east of Buena Vista. We rode the forest roads, which provided a nice, easy cruise through the woods with good scenery.
There are a couple of advanced 50" trails in there, but we avoided those today.
We did 23 miles and the TRV only took a gallon of fuel on the refill. That’s pretty impressive.
Mine did 18.5 mpg, which is still pretty good.
The 3.1:1 ratio is awesome, the extra .5mm shim really made a difference from what it was before. This thing will flat tear up hills now, its fun!
Great ride and highly recommend doing it. I would not take novice riders on this ride as there are many areas that are very rocky, some are technical ascents/descents. All in all, a good day with great people. We did have a minor issue where the group got split, but after about an hour, we were able to regroup with everyone. Additionally, bringing along extra fuel is a good idea as it was needed for an older 2-stroke quad.
No one got hurt or ultimately lost which is a good thing. I did experience a cut sidewall not even 2 miles into the ride. Doubled over 3 tire plugs, used my cheap 12V compressor (well worth the money) and air was holding. We kept an eye on it and I didn’t seem to be losing air. I decided to press on with the group to do this ride which had been on my list.
That was not the end of problems I experienced though. About 1/2 mile away from our trucks, a few had stopped and I was bringing up the rear, so I stopped too. Then my Grizz just quite and my voltmeter went from 14V down to 6V. Turned off all accessories and the voltage started climbing slowly but didn’t go above 8V. It was a long day and it was late so we quickly decided just to have BBHuey tow me back with his Rzr. I’ll get it figured out soon enough.
