2006 Yamaha Bruin 350 opinions and value

So i’m looking at a starter atv to get into the passtime and i see a 2006 bruin for a decent price. I’m 6’2 and 240lbs so want to make sure it will handle me no problem. Just want it for running a few trails and maybe taking my young kids on the back for a trek. I figure if it works out well and i get a lot of use I’ll look at investing more money and buying something newer. Whats it worth? This one is 2200 CDN. Also will it fit onto the truckbed of a dodge ram or will i need a trailer? Thanks!

Opinion/advice on late model Bruin

So…I have a plan to purchase the family atvs…need to buy 3….$OUCH$. I’m getting myself a Grizzly 700 and probably a Polaris Sportsman 90 for the little guy. I’m considering a 2014 Bruin 350 for the wife…it’s enough machine for her(I think) and the amount of times she will ride, I can’t justify a more expensive machine. But, I know little about the Bruins. Is the fact that it has no low range a big issue? Is the 350 engine enough fun for someone under 140lbs? Any advice or recommendations for other machines if a Bruin will not be a good choice for my wife? Thanks.

big bear 400 timing chain guides

I can not find in any manual or thread how to place the timing chain guide??? What holds it in place??? is it the same height as the other side?? This bike cam with the chain in the bottom because they broke the oil cooler bottom fitting, pumped the oil out and fried the top end.
Also looking for the newer style oil cooler or a way to adapt a 96 oil cooler to the flare fittings of the newer lines?????

2009 Big Bear 400 won’t shift from reverse to neutral when on

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the world of ATVs/UTVs and am having a problem with a 2009 Big Bear 400 that I am now responsible for maintaining. It starts up fine, shifts from neutral to 1st gear and from neutral to reverse just fine, but it doesn’t shift from reverse to neutral when the engine is on. I can shift back to neutral after I turn it off, but not while it’s on.

Most of my Google searches have yielded results where people have a hard time shifting INTO reverse, which is not the case for me. I think the closest case is this one for a Bruin: grizzlycentral.com/forum/kodiak-big-bear-bruin-wolverine-discussion/46897-bruin-250-will-not-shift-reverse.html but I don’t have any diagrams about the inner workings of the Big Bear so I don’t know the same parts might be the issue.

I also don’t know this machine’s maintenance history, so it’s possible the previous owner neglected something.

It still gets the job done, but if I ever need to outrun a bear and have to make a 3-point turn first, I’m a goner!

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/links!

2000 big bear 400 won’t idle right

I’m working on a 400 big bear and I can’t seem to get it to idle right. I’ve cleaned the carb several times. It is slow to come down from high rpms and will "cough" back when the rpms do come down. The choke isn’t stuck, all passages have been thoroughly cleaned and the diaphragm is working correctly. Also, no cracks in the boot. What size main and mid jets go where? I may have swapped them on accident, the bigger jet is in the main jet spot right now. Could the calves cause this problem?

07 dies with any amount of throttle?

Hi, I have a 2007 big bear 250 that has a Carb issue that I’m stumped on. I bought it not running and found that the previous owner had replaced the intake boot with an after market one which was wrong and not making a seal on the Carb. I replaced it with one I got from the Yamaha dealership in town and while I had the Carb off I gave it a really good cleaning. When I got it all back together it fired right up, revved up good with the choke on and idled perfectly, but when you give it any amount of throttle it bogs down and dies. It will do this with the mixture screw all the way in or out. I took the Carb off and inspected everything but can’t find a problem in it. I found an article about people mixing up the main and secondary jets and having similar issues but I triple checked that the larger jet was in the main jet emulsion tube and tightened down fine. If I remove the air filter and block half of the intake off it will rev up much better so I thought it was running very lean, but the spark plug is jet black. I’m at a loss, anyone have any ideas on what to try? I thought of adjusting the vacuum slide needle to a more rich mixture but with the bike being factory stock I wouldn’t think it would need this amount of adjusting.

Yamaha Big Bear Extreme Mud Build

Just Picked up a 1989 bigbear 350 for 400$. Its mint… I am going to build it into a mud slaying machine. I do a lot of custom fab work. nothing leaves my shop. I am planning to make a custom arched a-arm 6" lift and widen it about 7" with some 30" silverbacks. Do the same with the rear also. something like @jamiewatts300 does with his 300’s… The only thing is I have not found any way to make a gear reduction in this so I may have to tear my motor apart and build one myself.(Like a 54% or something:devil:) But that can be something I will do after. The dual range will help lots for now with a first gear with a ratio of 67.113… I was looking to do a full motor rebuild and swap things from other motors to make a good combination. Like use a warrior head cause of the bigger valves. (Are the warrior and Kodiak 93-99 heads the same?) I would put a Webcam cam, valves, springs, rockers, etc. With a high comp piston and probably the warrior carb (4mm bigger than BB) it should give me a bit extra power. And input on either of these would be very much appreciated. Shes gonna be a mean riding machine!:getrdone:
