Rocker Shaft Blocking Cylinder Head Bolt

I am working on a top end rebuild for a 2008 Big Bear 250 that I recently purchased. It was missing a cylinder head bolt which the previous owner provided me in a bag of various other bolts. Upon trying to reinstall the cylinder head after the top end rebuild I realized that the shaft that one of the long cylinder head bolts goes through is blocked by what appears to be the rocker shaft. But I’m not entirely sure what it is (see red circle in picture which is the offending part). I have also attached a picture viewing through the cylinder head bolt hole so you can see where it is blocked. Any insight would be appreciated. I’m not sure how to fix this…

new 2 me 97 kodiak 400

hey guys, new to forum. i just pickedup a 97 kodiak 400 off a buddy. starts up great. backfires sometimes when giving her the gas. little did i know, doesnt have an air filter or lid on airbox!!! could this cause this problem?? its got a brand new aftermarket carb on it. starts and idles puurfect but if u hammer on it it gives a little bog and dies. but if slowly accelerate this baby runs smooth. also i am going to be mounting a superwinch on front for plowing so any pictures of mount setups would be awesome. also wondering if anyone has ever made an extension for the H-L-R shifter, as I am in the process so no more leaning down when plowing!! lol thanks in advance!

oil cooler delete?

been a while since i posted ‘coz the old big bear has been running perfect! however a slight frame crack issue had me stripping the front plastics etc off to go welding, in the process of removing the oil cooler pipes didn’t i go and split the damn thing:icon_ laughup: anyhoo after much swearing i wondered could i just delete the cooler out of the sytem all together, the fan would rarely come on while out and our ambient temperature these days while riding would be between 9-14c (48f-57f)
i reckon all will be good just more regular oil changes needed.

Crankshaft – TDC

I am trying to turn the crankshaft to top dead center. Please confirm if this is the right shaft that needs to be turned to accomplish TDC. It doesn’t have a bolt head on it and I’m having a hard time finding a wrench that will fit. It seems to be in between an 18mm and 19mm. I appreciate any advice. (2008 – Big Bear 250)

Big Bear 4wd parts interchange 96 to 2001?

I have access to a 96 big bear 4wd that is blown up and considered junk. They say the 4wd worked fine. My new to me 2001 Big Bear 400 is only 2wd. Looking at it I see mounts for the front diff and caps where the hubs would receive the axles. Do these parts interchange? Can it really be that easy? The transfer appears to bolt on where the u joint is for the current driveshaft and I assume there is a shorter driveshaft on the 4wd to make up the difference in length? My apologies for all of the questions but I am farmer that uses my machines for daily chores in all sorts of bad conditions and 4wd would be very nice if not necessity at times.
