TRX300A 2wd

Today she rolled almost a year after the rusted frame broke and the rear end blew up and I bought her cheap , changed out the rusted frame , TRX250A rear end conversion with all new bearings and seals , front disc brake conversion , ball joints , tie rod ends , upper steering bushing , fuel tank coated , few new cables , starter , battery , vent tubes , light bulbs , made a front bumper out of two bent up ones , clean carb , fuel filter , oil filter , air filter , petcock screen , and screen tube , take off tires and rims , recovered seat , paint job , and about 20 others things I forgot about —-

I had it painted camo with leaves but didn’t like it and painted it flat boat green , learned when I camo paint it later on to do the front , back and tank while they are on the bike together so the camo flows from one piece to the other , I did it one piece at a time and the all looked good but didn’t match as a set

Mechanically the bike should last a while

2005 Honda Foreman TRX500 FM Compression Question

Hey guys, I just ran a compression test on my 2005 Honda foreman TRX500 FM I just picked up, its reading 125 PSI, but in the repair manual it says it should be reading 64 PSI due to its camshaft having a ‘decompression device installed’. So I`am either double my compression, or I don’t have this decompression device, or its not working, any thoughts ? Is it even possible to be double your compression ? The bike runs good, but is running rich with carbon build up on plug and tail pipe, have to pull the carb soon for a good cleaning and check choke plunger

New 450r, have starting issue

Havnt been on here in a while. I picked up a 04 trx 450r. Owner said it started when it wanted. Gas was old so I drained it and put fresh gas in. Tore carb off and cleaned every jet with carb cleaner and compressed air. Still no difference. I have to give it half throttle while kicking it and have the choke out o start. (I know the nightmares of the case cracking). Any ideas why I need to give it gas to start? Thanks

Hey guys, newbie here looking for help

Hey everyone, this is my first time on the forum and in need of some help. This might be a long post but I wanna give the run down on what I have and my issues.
I just picked up a 1997 Honda trx300fw for $600. bucks. The quad is in excellent shape cosmetically. No rust or cracks in plastic etc, etc. The old guy I bought it off of bought it brand new in 97. About 4 years ago he had it in the shed and was going to go riding and pulled it out and it wouldn’t start. Mice ate the wiring harness and got into the air filter as well. Instead of fixing it he went out and bought a brand new rancher. He literally left it right outside the shed for 4 years in the weather. Well now the quad won’t move and the motor is locked up. I’m not to worried about the motor end as I’ve rebuilt many quads in the past. (all 2wd drive though)
My main concern at this point is why it’s not moving. It does rock back and forth a little so I’m thinking it’s not the brakes. I can only get the shifter to click up or down 2 clicks. I’m not sure if I’m even in neutral. My game plan was to fix the harness and hook the battery up to see if I’m in neutral with the dash light. All the way down on this quad is neutral, right? Is that a good starting point or does anyone have any other ideas or known issues with my situation? I don’t mind freshening up the top end, (hopefully the crank is ok and could free her up) but I’m not really looking forward to splitting the cases. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Anthony

Tire Balance

My 2005 400ex has the original tires with less than 100 miles. Since it sat for 7 years in one spot, the wheels sort of deformed, having a "low" spot. So when I coast slow on smooth road/asphalt, I really feel the pulsing/whump as they go around.

After I ride a while – will the tires sort of reset themselves and round back out? If not, is one option to just have the wheels balances to offset that effect? Or am I looking at new tires.

Thanks in advance. Love the info on this forum.

need a bit of info rebuilding a 2002honda400ex

so i did a compression test i let it warm up for about 5 min i did the compression test twice and getting 100 psi the manual says 100 to 128 psi

so i am going to get it bored to a 416 wiseco 87mm 11 to 1 compression piston and give it a Honda crf450r timing chain and of course new gaskets
now for the big question do i take the auto decompression mechanism off the cam and run it like that or leave it on — the stock cam is like new

any info would be great
thanks

Strange whirr from my 400ex. Normal?

My 2005 400ex makes a bit of a whining noise, almost exactly like in this video I found on youtube. Suggestions as to what it is? It goes away after riding for 10 minutes or so. But definitely follows the revving of the bike, and happens in both neutral and while riding. Not sure if this is normal or a problem since this is my first 400ex. It’s 100% stock, and even though it’s a 2005, has less than 10 hours on it.
