I will be picking up a family members Recon to do a little troubleshooting tonight. They had some electrical problems with it last year: TRX 250 No Spark
All has been good since then till a couple weeks ago.
We had a big group riding @ Mines and Meadows in Beaver, PA. After an hour or so of riding, we took a water break. After the break, the recon rider went to start it up and there was NO power at all.
No headlights, no neutral light, nothing at all…anywhere.
The pull starter is broken so we weren’t able to try that.
My first inclination is to check to see a fuse is blown, then to see if the battery is charged. If those check out my next step is to check for power on the red wire going into the ignition switch and power on the blue wire coming out of the switch in the On position.
If anyone knows of a common failure that may have caused this, I’m all ears!
I bought a project bike last night and after digging into it today, I’m not sure if I made the right move. If I can get the motor to run good then I’ll tackle the rest.
First the bike starts easily when giving it some gas. But if you leave off the gas it will die….. Every time. I pulled the carberator today and took it all apart and gave it a good cleaning, but it still does the same exact thing. Also, when you choke it, the idle screams high but will stay running. Un choke it and it dies. Any ideas?
I would really like to get this one going as I’ve owned a 98 300 2wd since new and it still runs great. Just would like a 4wd for doing some of the heavier work around the house.
So, I recently replaced the carburetor on my 2003 TRX 500FA. I was going to just rebuild the carb but one of the jets stripped when I opened it up (I am in the process of removing said stripped screw) so I ended up just putting in a new carb.
I confirmed that the jets were the same at installation. Double checked the part number on the carb before ordering.
I installed the carb, carefully following the service manual step by step. Everything went well. I adjusted the pilot and idle as per the service manual.
All that said, it is now a total bugger to cold start (cold start meaning ambient air temps of ~50 degrees F). With the old carb I would just pull the choke and hit the starter after a few primer pumps and she would start right up. Now, in order to start it I need full choke and to give it a little throttle (which many of my fellow Honda owners say is totally normal with a new carb…or just with the Foreman Rubicons period). All that said, with full choke and a little throttle for about ten seconds she is just fine and runs great once I slowly release the choke. That said, once she has been running for as little as 45 seconds, she will start right back up without any choke or throttle.
She is running the best she ever has. I pulled the spark plug to confirm I was running the pilot at a good spot and sure enough the spark plug is a nice brown color (was worried the pilot screw might be causing the hard cold starts).
So, am I worried about nothing, since there really isn’t anything that changed asides from the carb? As I stated above, I adjusted the pilot as her the Honda manual (even did it a second time worrying that it was causing the hard starts) and also adjusted it for my altitude (~8,000′). Is there something I might be overlooking? Gas is fresh, treated for ethanol, air filter is clean, fuel lines are turned on…

Hey guys, this is my first post on here. I bought a 250EX for my son. I got a good deal on it, runs great and just has a little damage. I need to replace the front right control arm, it is bent pretty bad. I want to buy a used one and I have read that I can use the Recon A arms. I don’t know what year it is exactly because the sticker is not on the unit on the front any more. So any help would be greatly appreciated. I know that it is not a 2006+ because it has the older head light but I can’t find what year they were made. But we are excited to be a part of the Honda ATV family!

So as I was riding my bike around my yard, I heard a fairly loud bang in my engine and it rolled to a stop. The kick start has almost no compression to be felt, and I hear movement in the engine but it’s not turning over. It isn’t seized at all. I recently had to take the top end off to put the timing chain back on but this doesn’t seem like the same problem. Is my engine blown? Is there anyway to know the extense of the damage without yanking everything apart just yet?
