400ex air scoop install pictures

Does anybody have any close up pictures of their air scoops mounted up? Specifically on a newer model 400ex(mines an ’07). I bought a set of UN’s for mine and the instructions aren’t the best and it just doesn’t look right. Thanks!

1999 TRX 450S Running Poor

New to this website, I have a 1999 TRX 450S I have owned since new, was coming in from the cornfield a few weeks back and it started to run horrible, backfiring and spitting gas out of the carb into the airbox,so me being me started throwing parts at it which includes, New CDI, Coil, Voltage regulator, and last but not least a Carburetor, although it does run a bit better as it gets hot starts to bog down ides horribly has really no power and unburned gas fumes coming out the pipe with a bit of black smoke, PS I have also cleaned the pipe wasn’t really that fouled up, Can anyone lend me any advise, Farming don’t pay squat and I cant really afford a new one and it sure is handy to have around, Also we did adjust the valves as they were a bit loose but not bad, and the machine has 600 hrs on it. thanks in advance to anyone that replies

Is my 400ex running lean?

I have bought a 2001 400ex and am wondering if it is running lean. I have a white bro e series exhaust. i have tried larger main jets which seem to help the high end of the band of course, but I have also not been able to perfect killing the engine while throttle is pressed and pull the plug.

the fuel mixture screw is 2.5 turns out

When I pull the plug after it is warmed up and I let it idle for a while it is white. When i let it idle with half choke, the plug is tan.

THE PREDICAMENT: I can turn the fuel mixture screw all the way in and the engine does not die.

I am new to tuning the carburetor and was thinking of maybe trying a 40 or 42 pilot jet. But without the engine dying when the fuel screw is turned in all the way, I am at a stand still.

Any help or suggestions, tips or tricks would be appreciated thank you!

new 400ex from NY

Whats up guys…started lurking 2 years ago when I got my 07 250ex. sold it in the spring and wanted to get a bigger quad.

looked on the local Facebook atv/dirtbike BST, finally found a "nice" 400ex with a registration (lots of stolen stuff around here, i wanted to be safe lol). I found this 2007 400ex, the guy said it was his girlfriends and they broke up so he wanted to get rid of it. Fast forward to picking up up…i was pleasantly surprised to find the 05-07 had reverse which comes in handy once you get used to having it.

when i went to pick it up (3 weeks ago), it was a little more beat up than it looked in the pictures. I had a friend who owns a 400ex come to test ride it to make sure it felt like a 400ex should. He said it worked fine but needed some adjustments, the seller set up the clutch and other controls for wheelies, etc.

upon arrival i found it needed the following:
-bumper
-oil change (planned on doing it anyway)
-ASV clutch was banged up from a roll
-missing tail light (from wheelies)
-Headlight switch did not work

…so i bought it still and brought her home. the registration for the bike is what i wanted to be safe, so i handed over $2,000.

The bike after i cleaned it up initially w/ existing upgrades:

-TUSK nerf bars
-Protaper bars
-ASV brake/clutch
-Billet gas cap
-White brothers ProCarbon II slip on (modified from a 450r)
-jetted
-Gel battery

didn’t ride until i changed the oil and got it Registered, didn’t want to worry about it.

After i went at it with a toothbrush, bleach, Fantastic, Armorall, etc…the arsenal, also adding the following:

-Black shock covers
-DG Bumper from eBay (old style, cut it out of the pic)
-License plate
-Black Rockstar grips

I also noticed, once adjusting the handlebar controls to fit me better, the front master cylinder perch was cracked…concealed by the proximity of the accelerator lever (wondered why it was so close to each other, binding up the accelerator lever)

So i went back to eBay to buy a few more things to mint it up, since i plan on keeping this quad until it dies. I purchased the following:
-Honda OEM starter/headlight switch assembly (new)
-Honda OEM ignition with 2 keys (new)
-Honda 99-04 400ex brake master cylinder (used)

installed everything but the master cylinder, need a buddy to give me a hand bleeding the system. pictures show the new ignition, bumper, headlight switch, muffed up clutch lever assembly (works fine)

Over this weekend, I got the universal LED taillight I ordered in the mail from eBay. Wired that up, works great except the brakes don’t engage the brake light function. The ASV brake lever does not trip the handlebar switch, and maybe the foot brake pressure switch is bunk. Oh well, I really just wanted a functioning running light for nighttime use.

Yesterday I ordered new packing for the muffler from Lexx (MXe pro whatever packing) and a new air filter from WIX, preoiled. Seems comparable to Uni and was $20 cheaper.

More pics to come later when I get outside to mess with her! Excited to ride upstate and in the snow this winter.

also, check out my youtube page, I film a lot of my rides with my gopro.

New Guy with 86 TRX 250 Tire Question

Hi all, new guy here. I’ve been lurking the forums for the last couple of months and decided it was time to finally join.

A couple of months ago I picked up an 86 TRX 250 utility from a kid for a few hundred bucks off of Kijiji (the Canadian Craigslist lol). It was a little rough around the edges but ran and drove great. It needed a new starter and tire rod ends, however a quick look on eBay solved these problems. Up until now I’ve been doing minor mods (12 volt outlet, snorkel, currently fabbing up a winch mount) and just enjoying it.

Anyways, the bike came with a set of 25×12.5×9 Bearclaws with good tread on the back and a set of Kenda Front Max in 21x7x10 on the front that also had good tread but are well….tiny. Lol. I’m happy with the Bearclaws for the time being (although they do seem to run a bit short), but the front needs attention

What do you guys think I should look into for front tires? I want something that’s going to be a few inches taller but ideally the same width, maybe around 23×7. I ride a combination of hard packed trails and a bit more loose terrain, as well as a little bit of mud. I picked up a set of 90’s 12" Yamaha rims that have the proper offset so it could be either for a 10" or 12" rim. I was looking at maybe more of an all terrain tire (either Bearclaw or Mud Lite), but I’m open to anything really.

Thanks!

1997 TRX300FW leaking oil from cylinder head

I bought this TRX300FW used last year and it is a great reliable machine. Yesterday, I noticed that oil is beading out of the rubber plug on the cylinder head. It looks like the previous owner used some junky sealant as a gasket, which is now flaking and cracking.

I’m not mechanically inclined, but I’m good with directions. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can easily fix it? Can I patch the sealant with new sealant, do I need a new rubber plug or do I need to install a new gasket? I’ve searched for hours and I cannot find a post describing similar symptoms.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
