Hey everyone just picked up this 05 400ex. Sold my husky 125 as I wanted a quad. Got I knowing it needed quite a bit of work. It smoked like crazy and had a rattle in engine. Alao pre owner flipped it causing some damage.
So far have removed the head and jug, sent jug to be checked and honed. Ordered new steering stem, rear caliper rebuild kit. Will order a Wisco piston kit once I get exact cylinder specs. Having my buddy build me a custom front push bar. I also do powder coating so I’m removing parts to shoot them. Getting new rear tires as these balloons arnt gonna cut it. First pic is a old one from pre owner btw. I’ll add more pics and info as progress goes
Does anyone have the installation instructions that you can post or p.m. me for the TRX350 4×4 speedometer kit? I picked up a complete used kit that came with everything but the instructions of course, and I just want to make sure I install it right. TIA
I’m having a hell of a time getting the reverse lever off of the shaft its on. I’m assuming it should pop off of there? Can’t get the case back on without disassembling this and getting the spring off. Picture attached. Thanks!!
My son’s quad has a flat spot when the throttle is opened quickly from idle to wide open (slamming the throttle from closed to open). It idles fine and runs great. There is no pause when throttling slowly. I know the pilot/slow jet controls idle, but what else could it be? I took the carb apart and it was spotless. I went ahead and cleaned it out with carb cleaner and compressed air anyway. I also messed around with the air/fuel mixture and still cannot get rid of the dead spot. The machine is jetted correctly, sparkplug is good, air filter, etc. Any thoughts? Thanks for any suggestions.
Been researching how to jet my carb. Was wondering if I am heading in the right direction.
2000 400EX bone stock.
Elevation 761 ft
Adding a HMF performance slip-on, UNI air filter, and will be leaving the lid on.
I ordered a bunch of Keihin main jets. 160, 165, 170, 175, 180
And two pilot jets 40, 42
From what I have found I think I should start with the 165 main. 2.5 – 3 turns out on the fuel screw. Should I just go with the 42 pilot to start?
Leave the needle in the stock position. I have a few new plugs to do a chop test. HMF says to use a 160 and 42 for a slip on with lid on. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks
