12V front accessory socket install experience?

Hi ATV experts,

Does anybody have experience installing this socket on a 2013 or later Rancher?

(not the one that attaches to the front rack)
It installs on the front cover here:

The installation instructions from Honda, saysto remove a whole bunch of plastics but, it seems to me that its doable in-place, and I’d like to avoid taking off everything if possible.

Has anybody installed this plug while the in place on the front cover? Or am I nuts for not following the specific installation instructions?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom!

Rancher TRX400FA 2006 Stuck in Fail-Safe Mostly

Hi Guys, new to the forum. Found you while searching for a solution to a ECM/shifting problem with a 2006 TRX400FA. This problem seems like one that a person smart on how the system works will know where to start, so I am throwing this out for help. Melsman’s write up gave me a lot of good info and ideas, but I’m hoping someone will just know.

Background, first, the bad: machine is only used for plowing snow in Pittsburgh PA. It sits for 9 months on a battery tender looking lonely and sad. I just like 2-wheeled fun better, but I love how this thing plows my driveway.

The better: It’s only got 800 miles on it. Get’s loving oil changes, tune ups, all the right care. Have a Service Manual and use it.

So it starts fine, but when I shift into Drive (Auto) or Reverse, it shows "- -". It stays in low gear all the time. First time, it had a Code of 11 (ECM Fail-Safe Relay Circuit). Followed the book, which said to reset it. Did that, and it has never come back, but the problem is the same. So now there are no more ECM codes being thrown.

In ESP, no gear number appears and the switches do not function.

Occasionally, once when driving stuck in low and once coming out of N, it started working normally (both D and R), but this was short-lived, next time in N and come back out, stuck in low. I’d say I’ve tried it 30 times at it worked twice.

My thought is trouble shoot the Control Motor and the Angle Sensor, but I can’t figure out why it would go into gear at all if that was the problem, but that could be the "fail-safe" design so it gets you home at 3 MPH. Those of you who understand the system will probably not find that surprising.

Any thoughts will be much appreciated, thanks.

Electrical problem with headlight

here is some background the wheeler was outdoors at deer camp for 5 days in non stop rain while coming back from tree stand the lights went out. I have a 2006 Honda Rancher TRX 350FE the problem I am having is the headlights do not come on. I have tail lights and console lights when ignition key is turned on but when I turn on my head lights I loose all lights. I have taken apart and tested light bulbs and wires from plug to sockets, I tested continuity through ground back to negative cable on battery. I also checked the blue wire to ground it is neg, tested white to ground it pos. looking at schematic it shouldn’t be pos. I’m thinking white wire touching chassis?

rancher frame questions…any guru’s?

as a kid (35+ years ago) I used to ride one of the old honda big red atc’s and I managed to not kill myself. recently a rancher quad with a seriously rotted out frame fell into my greasy paws……as if my other toys and family were not using enough of my feeble cash resources…

I will be asking some questions about different frames and their interchangeability specifically the rancher I got is a 350 with the following on the front of the frame : trx350fm4 2004 code r232 seems to be a manual shift full time 4wd.

it was used by a beach rescue group on one of the local beaches to put small boats and jet skis into the water so the frame is totally rotted out by salt water corrosion. When I say rotted out, the bottom of the frame separated and now I have a sway backed ATV 🙂

If I was stationed in the states it would not be a big deal, but being stationed overseas with the military it is hard to get any info on this thing.

there are several on ebay but I am not sure if they fit..evidentally there are some differences between the 2wd and 4wd frames though some auctions list them as the same.

can anyone help with info as to if the frames are different or the same? as long as the driveline lines up properly i do not care…I can weld tabs or brackets for the fenders if they line up differently.

cheers
