400FA shifting(or not shifting) problems

Was asked to look at a 400FA today, whether its in ESP or Auto mode I put it into drive or reverse, the transmission only partially engages, the vehicle creeps forward or backward and you can hear the gears spinning but not catching on from the front of the engine around where the little motor(shift motor?) on the left side is. I took the motor off and there is a geared shaft that sits in the motor and goes into the engine, the teeth on either end do not appear to have any damage or wear. I thought that maybe the cable from the shifter down to the left rear of the engine is connected may be out of adjustment, but it doesn’t look like its ever moved or slipped at all and I don’t want to start pulling things apart until I get some advice. Anyone have any idea what might be the problem>

2011 Rancher rear diff issue

Alright I’ve replaced the rear diff seal right where the driveshaft goes in the differential about 3 or 4 times times now. It doesnt have a lift kit so i’m clueless on what could be making that seal go out so much. It spends a lot of time in mud so idk whether that could be a factor or not. Thanks for any input!!

2004 fourtrax at 4×4 not working

Hey all
Should of checked to make sure all was well with the old girl before needing her for the up coming long weekend. So everything was cherry before putting her to sleep for our long winter. Was just changing oil, plug ect and noticed the front wheels aren’t engaging while 4×4 is selected. 4×4 light switches on just no drive. I was told it could be a low battery, so replaced with a new yuasa one. Couldn’t be that easy. If I unplug the angle sensor it throws the esp code, plug back in and it’s fine. It is throwing 5 neutral blinks though if that makes any sense? The front propeller shaft spins with no noise. If I pry the shaft into motor while being in 4×4 the front wheels do engage?
Any help is appreciated
Thanks

2014 Rancher/Foreman Bumper Swap

I have kicked the idea around for a while and seen it discussed a couple of places as to whether or not a Foreman Bumper for the 2014+ models (NOT the Foreman Rubicon bumper) would swap onto a 2014+ Rancher. I took a tape measure to a dealer and decided to try it. To my excitement, it worked and I really like it!

2003 Honda Rancher 350 wont start

I bought this brand new and only has 825 miles on it. It sat over a year, so tried starting it and all it did was a clicking noise. I replaced the the thing that was clicking and still won’t start. I charged the battery, got it started but wont stay running. Is it the battery? The thing is in mint condition and my nephew took care of all maint. till last year. Thoughts? Thank you!!

2004 Rancher 400 ESP/Auto trouble

Hi. New member as I just purchased this ATV. Thanks in advance for any info. I have already seen the extensive write up in the stickys but have a few questions.

The atv will not go into Auto mode no matter where the switch is located.

It cranks and runs great. Shift into to drive and the gear shift indicator just shows "–". It drive fine in 1st gear but will not shift and still just shows "–".

When you put it in reverse sometimes it drives fine other times it bogs down the backfires and quits. After this if you recrank it it does the same thing. The guy I bought if from showed me a "reset". Hold down both shift buttons turn on key. Immediately let go. Then push up, down, up. The shift motor actuates, then push in throttle, let go of throttle, start the atv put in in reverse and it runs fine.

Is this something the recall was meant to fix?

I looked through the service manual and it has a process for retrieving codes, but I was not able to retrieve any. It seems like there are a lot of people that have issues with these trans. Any thoughts would be much appreciated

Where to buy Crush Washers and What size?

I’ve done lots of searching for the size of the oil drain plug washer. (Crush Washer) Looked in the service manual as well as the owners manual. Just seems to say it needs changing after each oil change. It’s mentioned many times in forum posts here as well. Couldn’t find a size or part number though.

Can anyone help me out with a size for my 2010 Rancher TRX420FPA and an online source? My Honda Dealer is about 20 mi. away and I’m not in a hurry as I just changed the oil. Unfortunately I changed oil about 5 times already and just found out I should be changing that washer at least every other time. Would like to purchase about 20 of the washers. I’m looking closer at the owners manual to see what other maintenance I’ve been slacking on.

I would also appreciate the size of the o-ring seal for the oil filter if someone may have that.

Thanks in advance for any input… 🙂

Snorkled Rancher ES 420 Fuel Injected Hydrolocked won’t start

We have a White and a Red Snorkled Rancher ES Fuel Injected 420’s we take riding on a river often. The other day, according to waterdata.usgs.gov, they raised the flowrate to 8x the average and it came up bank to bank while we were trying to ride back. The islands started disappearing and the channels became 100+ yards long with water up pass the seat but not quite up to the handle bars. The Ranchers slowly leak water into the airbox when up pass the seat so they couldn’t quite make it.

The white rancher hydrolocked first. We hooked it up to the red rancher and towed it for another 10 yards before the red one also hydrolocked. We eventually got it onto an area only a few inches deep and were able to take off the plastic and pull spark plugs and drain the water. The white rancher fired right off after. The red never did start. Even after getting it on a bank and pulling it while in 3rd gear it will not start. The plug has spark but it’s not getting fuel.

When we got back home, after sitting on a bouncing trailer for an hour, it ran for ~30 seconds or so but eventually died and will not start again. Not sure how to look at error codes but it doesn’t seem to be flashing anything. It’s something with the fuel injection. Before I start replacing parts here does anyone have any idea what might be wrong?
