2012 420 – No start – At a loss

Hi All,

I’ve been reading up on a problem for several days now without any luck, but wondered if I couldn’t ask for some advice.

I’ve got a 2012 rancher TRX420FE. I really only run it during hunting season and made the mistake of leaving some gas in it last season. My friend asked to borrow it last month and so we loaded it up. He called about half hour later and said that it sputtered dead and wouldn’t crank back up.

I went, picked it up and began going through it. I think I pulled my fuel pump first and realized that I had bad gas in the bottom of the housing and also had some small gray particulate stuff. Not as big as sand, more like a fine silt. I started messing with my fuel lines and came to pull my petcock valve. My petcock valve was eaten almost totally up. the diffuser tube(?) was green and corroded, and the frame of the screen running up the tube was still there, but none of the mesh was still there. Long story short, it looks like the ethanol trashed my petcock.

I purchased and installed a new fuel filter, a new petcock and evidently a new designed piece of housing for the fuel pump which I was told I needed. I threw everything back together, primed the pump and began trying to start with no luck. I checked my plug which didn’t look bad. I pulled my IACV and really don’t know exactly what I’m looking at. I replaced it with the groove correctly seated on the pin. I listened for the pump relays near the battery and they’re at least sounding like they’re engaging. I pulled the injector and watched it spray, or more like spurt. I put my hand over the fuel filter and it would try and fire off, but not really.

I believe I have air, fuel and fire, but am just not getting it to even try and fire off. It will crank for days. One of the things I don’t know is how that injector spray pattern should look and if that’s my problem. I get a couple of streams of concentrated fuel. Is that injection supposed to be more like a fine mist? or will it kinda spurt out? I changed my plug last night just to be sure and still no luck.

Any help would be great. It’s basically still a new machine. I’m not sure If I have 30 hours on it or more than 120 miles. I really hate taking it to the dealer so I wanted to check here first and see if anybody had any input.

2000 350FE shifting issue need help please

Hi All

Well here is my issue hope somewone can shed some light.
I took my bike out for a drive last night and got up to 4th gear and that was it it Quit shifting
I have a 2000 350FE 4×4 and will not shift with buttons up or down but can shift with tool no problem.
My Display works fine no flashing or anything when i shift with tool
I had angle sensor out and replaced with new one still nothing.
Took shift motor out and checked connections all good reinstalled and disconnected the wiring harness up under handle bars Orange and Green wires Took +and- from battery and jumped them to test and could get to shift fine 1-2-3-4-5 reversed polarity 5-4-3-2-1 and even reverse worked.
Checked the 2 switches on handle at ECU (22P) and have contenuity from both to ECU.

i will check wiring to connector from ECU tomorrow
Anyone have any more ideas

Need new lcd for gps

I recently had an accident with my 2004 rancher/fourtrax and broke the lcd on speedo/gps screen. I took it apart and found it still gets the signals from the motherboard so all I need is the lcd. The dealer doesn’t sell it separate and here in Canada its 450$. Of course I can’t find a used one. Does anyone know where I can get just the screen? Thanks

Stalling when in deep water

I have a 2014 rancher I have a snorkel and packed the sparkplug boot with dylectric grease. So I was testing the new snorkel out and got in a deep hole and water was over my exhaust and it kept wanting to stall out and cut the power, I was wondering if I get a hmf performance pipe if it would do the same thing. I know they make the swamp seires with a snorkel but would rather have the performance pipe. Any advice would be great.

2007 rancher 420 fm 4×4 FI light flash and will not start! need help.

2007 honda rancher 420fm 4×4.

this machine was running great then began to sputter out and die once running hot.

I replaced the fuel pump filter. the fuel pump canister was filthy.

Now. after fuel pump back installed. Turn the key on and try to start. FI light flashes non-stop. while key on and flashing you feel pulsating down at the fuel pump relay. I replaced that too. Still same issue. machine will not start. FI light flashing non stop and will not allow to run.

ANY IDEAS can help. thanks.

420 overheating

Having problems with my 420 overheating and then shutting off. Fan doesn’t come on, temp light doesn’t come on. It happened to me this spring and I changed the thermostat and all was good. Then my rings wore out so, I put a new piston and rings in, found a crack on the headpipe exhaust bolt hole, so changed the cylinder head with a spare that I had, I transferred the thermostat from the old head to the new, now I have great compression but the bike shuts down when it gets hot and the fan won’t come on again. Tried 2different thermostats(all used but were working in the bikes they came out of), same thing. Tested the thermostats in boiling water and it opens just fine, so I thought airlock? burped and bled the system several times to no avail. Took the water pump cover off and checked it, it turns just like it should, changed the temp sensor, now I’m frustrated and don’t know what else to check. Could all 3 thermostats be bad somehow? What are the odds of that happening? I’ve got a new one on order but maybe someone will read this and know what’s going on.

Headlights quit working

So went to pull the rancher in last night and the headlights don’t work. If you work the switch sometimes they come on for a second then go back off. I still have the brake light. Winch and everything else works fine. Any ideas?

400FA shifting(or not shifting) problems

Was asked to look at a 400FA today, whether its in ESP or Auto mode I put it into drive or reverse, the transmission only partially engages, the vehicle creeps forward or backward and you can hear the gears spinning but not catching on from the front of the engine around where the little motor(shift motor?) on the left side is. I took the motor off and there is a geared shaft that sits in the motor and goes into the engine, the teeth on either end do not appear to have any damage or wear. I thought that maybe the cable from the shifter down to the left rear of the engine is connected may be out of adjustment, but it doesn’t look like its ever moved or slipped at all and I don’t want to start pulling things apart until I get some advice. Anyone have any idea what might be the problem>
