Something is locked up?

Howdy ya’ll, havnt been a member here for very long and ive tried searching but maybey im not wording things right i guess. New to me ATV, from what ive learned it is a:

2004 TRX 400 FA with the hondamatic transmission.

Issue is, ATV starts fine, but once you put it in gear it may or may not die, or it will die as soon as you give it some throttle. It sounds and feels like something is locked up in the transmission or subtransmission or idk. Its like dumping the clutch in a vehicle with the parking brake engaged. Same thing happened once before a few months ago but we let it cool down and rocked it back and forth a few times and it has worked since. Tried that today after we got it home and it made it about 4 feet and locked up and died again.

From what i was told from the guy i got it from, the previous owner had the top end and the trans rebuilt prior to it being sold. How long ago it was i dont know.

2015 Rancher – Where to put accessory switches???

Just picked up a clearance 15 rancher AT after my 01 rancher ES tranny finally went. buddy thinks its the shifting fork, tried the angle sensor, but enough about the old. Hopefully we can revive her, but now onto the new.

I need 3-4 accessory switches. 1-LED driving light, 2-accessory lights (cool night riding lights), 3-reverse light, 4-GMRS radio (I have one hard wired to communicate with my kids while riding)

There is a nice spot on top of the gas tank, but not enough room below for all the wiring. Any suggestions?

I used the dash pod on the 01, but not enough room. I did wire the LED driving light to the high beam wire to save a switch there, could do that again, but still down to 3.

I will do more research on tapping into the reverse wiring, but that still leaves 2 switches needed.

Need to have the radio hard wired, at one of our stops, we often let kids ride in big open area and need to be able to communicate with them, this is nicer if switch or motor doesn’t have to be on.

Accessory lights are just cool to have on while stopped, again don’t want to have to leave key on for this.

Hopefully we will get some good suggestions or pics of others who have done this.

Thanks in advance.

Gas Problem

Hi all I just purchased a 2006 rancher 350, it was well cared for clean and as i could tell all fluids and components in predestine condition. I took it out on the trails for the first time and while going down long steep hills it would shut off due to no fuel(it did this 4-5 times that night and we fixed it by disconnecting the line and blowing it out). The fuel would not make it to the filter it would be dry, we found what we thought was the culprit to be a gummed up gas cap breather and sprayed it down with carb cleaner and have taken it on several more rides in the same area and had no problems with it dying. However the fuel filter still does not stay full and im wondering if there is still an issue somewhere. Just want to have it in tip top shape so let me know what you guys think.

Thanks
Zach

2015 Rancher Question

I’m new to ATV’s but going to buy a Honda Rancher. I need everyone’s advise. I know I want DCT and 4×4 but I’m having trouble deciding on IRS or solid rear axle. I’m an older guy (62) and will be riding on gravel roads and trails. No hill jumping or super fast driving. I want to be able to play, enjoy the views and most likely will only ride it 6-7 times a year. I also enjoy water fowl hunting and will use it several times a year in semi swampy conditions. So, which do you guys think I should buy?

New Tires

Hey all, just a question. I’m in the market for new atv tires… I ride a lot of hard pack, snow, a little mud here and there, and sometimes roads on my way to trails. I was looking at getting maxxis zilla – or kenda bearclaws k299’s. Which tire is more up my ally? Which tire will last longer? Which tire will do better with the conditions that I ride? Also what are the prices ranges between the 2. I was hoping to spent no more than 120 a tire. I’ve looked into bearclaws and I can get them for 93 a peice. I don’t know about the zilla’s yet. by the way I have a 06 Honda rancher 350. Looking at purchasing 25inch for either tire. For those who know good prices I live in Canada. Thanks Braeden!
