Wont Shift Into Neutral

Hi, I’m new here and this is my first post. I’m hoping I can find some help here.
I’m using a 2002 Honda Rancher ES 2WD at work. I have no idea where the manual is. I’m wondering if someone can help me with which fluids I use for engine oil, radiator fluid, gear oil, transmission oil and where the fill points are located? Also, recently I started having a problem with the Electronic Shifting going back into Neutral. I was able to drive around and go up and down through the gears, but had a difficult time getting it back into neutral. This just started happening. I’m wondering if it needs transmission fluid? In the last 5 years I’ve never added any fluids.
Thanks!

2007 Rancher 420ES “dash” flash at gear indicator

Has anyone dealt with this before? The gear indicator is flashing a simple "dash". The bike will crank, but won’t turn over. I’m not getting any codes, just the stupid "-" flashing at the gear indicator. Unfortunately, the bike sits for long periods of time. It’s a 2007 and I only have 110-hours and about 400 miles on it.

I started the bike about a week ago to move it out of my way. Started right up. I put the bike in reverse and moved it, shifted into neutral and left it running for a few minutes, then shut it down. It is definitely in neutral. When I went to start it back up, it would crank but not turn over. That’s when I noticed the flashing dash. Stupid owners manual said "See Honda Dealer".

I tried to open a link for a service manual on this site, but the link didn’t work.

Experiences? Solutions?

Thanks, Willy

04 rancher 350 4×4 axle bolt coming loose all the time!

Hey guys, just picked up a nice honda but the axle bolt on the rear left side keeps coming loose after and during rides. I noticed when I bought it there was what looked like grease stain around the axle on the back side of the tire and the tire itself was slightly loose. I figured the bearing was going, but I haven’t noticed any noise. I bought a socket for the axle bolt and tightened it up. It was very loose. But I thought that would be the end of it since it tightened right up and felt very secure.. Well, as much as I can hand tighten it, she keeps coming loose to the point of breaking the shear pins off! What the heck is going on here? This is dangerous. Bad design imo!!

12 volt outlet

I’ve not taken delivery of my new Rancher yet….

I will probably add a DIY 12 volt "cigar lighter" type outlet to my 2015 Rancher soon. I’ve added those to countless motorcycles, always connecting them directly to the battery, and adding an in-line fuse if one was not provided with the outlet. I’ve mounted the outlet itself to the handlebars or a convenient frame section. I like to have an outlet for my GPS, cell phone, air compressor, etc. I generally don’t add an inline fuse to keep things simple. I’ve been reading on this forum about several folks who have done something like what I plan, but they have not connected directly to the battery. I know Honda makes a plug-n-play outlet, but the cost is nuts when I can do my own for $10 (less actually, I have an outlet in my garage right now!)

If access to the battery very difficult on the Rancher? Is that why no one connects directly to it?

Thanks.

Towing 800 lb trailer with a Rancher

I will pick up my 2015 Rancher 420 4×4 ES next week. Mine does NOT have the IRS. One of the tasks I have in mind for it is moving an 800 lb motorcycle/atv/lawn tractor around the back yard. I won’t have much in the way of hills, so I am not worried about stopping, and I also understand the Rancher is fine with that weight.

My question is the stock hitch on the Rancher. I can easily just add a ball of the appropriate size. I am a little concerned that the ball height is pretty low compared to my truck, but I figure for just moving the trailer 50 feet or so it will not be an issue. I do wonder, however, about the aftermarket receiver hitches I see on eBay and else where. Like this one. What is the purpose of those, other than allowing me to use a hitch that’s higher or lower than the stock one? And of course be able to slide in a regular 2 inch hitch? Just curious.

Thanks!

2015 trx420fa5

I own a 2015 TRX420FA5. Less than 20 hours and I tore a boot on the outer rear right. I was able to put the boot back on. I replaced the boot a week later. It now has an audible click when backing up and turning right. Apparently, I had a small rock in the cv joint which I failed to clear when I replaced boot and repacked grease. It is not covered by warranty. Any suggestions on new rr axles? I appreciate any useful advice.

Something is locked up?

Howdy ya’ll, havnt been a member here for very long and ive tried searching but maybey im not wording things right i guess. New to me ATV, from what ive learned it is a:

2004 TRX 400 FA with the hondamatic transmission.

Issue is, ATV starts fine, but once you put it in gear it may or may not die, or it will die as soon as you give it some throttle. It sounds and feels like something is locked up in the transmission or subtransmission or idk. Its like dumping the clutch in a vehicle with the parking brake engaged. Same thing happened once before a few months ago but we let it cool down and rocked it back and forth a few times and it has worked since. Tried that today after we got it home and it made it about 4 feet and locked up and died again.

From what i was told from the guy i got it from, the previous owner had the top end and the trans rebuilt prior to it being sold. How long ago it was i dont know.
