So I finally pulled the trigger and bought my first ATV. Happy to say I bought a Honda Rancher. I’ve owned Honda products most of my life (cars, motorcycle, lawn mowers, etc.), and figured I couldn’t go wrong. I know there’s lots of competition in the ATV market, but for the deal I got on the outgoing 2015 models, I couldn’t pass it up.
It’s the FA5 model, which has the AT DCT, ES, and the feature I really wanted: IRS. It’s finished in Phantom Camo because I’m using it for trail-riding, hunting, and fishing, and want the stealthy appearance. I’m topping it off with some Kolpin accessories (TrailTec Deluxe Cargo bag and Ratcheting Rhino grips for my bow/guns) and possibly splurging on a Yutrax 4-wheel (tracking axle) trailer. I think I’ve done my homework well, but if there’s anyone who owns one of these (even earlier models that may share some things in common with the 2015) and has some advice or whatever, please share. I have this tool that gets me out of a stuck gear?? I’m assuming this is because of the ESP (not EPS) shifting and a lack of foot clutch? I think I fully understand it, but when does it tend to get most stuck? Should I keep it in ESP mode all the time? I haven’t been able to do much riding yet, so I’m not sure what I’m in for when it comes to the potential shifting difficulties. Guess I just want some advice in order to minimize using this tool to get into gear (or neutral, as it were).
Any other advice, please send it my way. Not doing anything crazy with it (yet) like mudding or going into water (I know about snorkel kits). I want it to last me a lifetime. 🙂
Hello everyone. New to the forum. Please forgive me if this has been covered before but after searching I couldnt find a solution for this particular problem. When sitting still my 2010 420es will shift through all the gears fine. But when I go to first and tach up to the point I want to shift, nothing happens. Only after I coast down to 2-3 mph will it shift to second. Its like this for every gear. Anyone else ever had a similar problem?
I posted this problem other day, have not got it sorted yet. No spark, checked all wiring I have full battery voltage at the two thick cables going to the CDI. The ignition pulse generator is giving .22volt AC at the blue/yellow and the green/white wires going into the CDI when I crank it over with the starter. My Honda dealer says he has never seen a crook CDI unit.

Working on a 2003 rancher 350fe purchased as a project put a new top end on it and noticed that the clutch was not working properly was only able to get up 35mph in 5th gear.
After pulling the motor and inspecting the centrifugal clutch I noticed some small grooves in the drum should I replace or just let it be. The list of parts going in while the engine is out is friction discs, one way bearing, timing chain. I can up load pics if needed.

I am having some trouble shifting into reverse, forward gears are good. the lever seems to be working. It occurs on incline as well as level ground? is it just a break in thing — operator knowledge— or is there an adjustment.

The bumper arrived today and I got it installed. The installation went pretty well other than there was two brackets on either side that didn’t line up with the plastics like they should. Here are some pictures.
Here is the before picture with the stock bumper.
Here is the new bumper installed.
Here are a couple of side by side pictures of the bumpers.
Here is a picture of the bracket that would not bolt to the plastic correctly. The plastic should be in front of the bracket so that the bolt could hold it down but the brackets on both sides are too far forward. I tried bending one of them to make it work but then it wouldn’t align so I just put the screws back in and left the plastic unattached. It still felt very solid and I just put a plastic zip tie through the hole in the plastic and around the bracket and bolt.
