2008 rancher 420fm electric issue(with pics)

ok so i have a 08 rancher fm that i am overhauling (bought from an x gf about :stupid:) so two years ago i replace the battery, the rectangle black relay by the battery, the starter solenoid and got the engine overhauled on the top end ,new rings, piston head , and honed. fuel pump. i went i was trying to get it back into shape i kinda notice that it wouldnt hold a charge but still trying to troubleshoot the bike . well i went to ride it one day and the engine popped like ring had busted and started blowing smoke . i rode it home . didnt really touch it after that . well i got a 2004 rancher AT on a trade a couple weeks ago .so i had an idea that i would get my 2008 running again and have two bikes . so i bought a new used engine for the 08′ FM and installed it last week bought a new battery and the new used engine fired right up . well i go to try it out in the woods with my other 04 rancher. so my friend and i are riding through the woods this weekend i am on the 08 FM for a good 3 hours and i go to reverse and the bike just kills on me engine ran perfect till it died… . so we tow it back to the camp . i go fishing and call it a day and dont worry about the bike . so i get it back to my house and this week i start looking at it . the battery is drained i hear a clicking noise at the solenoid . so i get a new one, new spare refictifier i installed that also(see pic) . i hook up jumper cables from the truck and turn the bike on, i hear electronics start turning nothing happens as far as the engine moving . so i know it is electric issue . i hear a ticking noise in the black relay that i installed . (see pic) then i see the display lights blinking (see pic). could it be the starter . or????????? help a newbie out

Honda Heated Grips installation instructions?

So I ordered a set of the A20 heated grips, but they came with no instructions, presumably because it’s normally a dealer-installed item. Anyone know of any instructions for the 2015 Rancher FA5? I found 2013 non-FA model instructions, but my guess is those won’t be too accurate. Calling my dealer today but figured I’d ask the forums, too. 🙂 Thanks!

2014 front diff

ok so i have a 2014 rancher 420 and i was riding this weekend and broke a cv axle. weird thing is when the cv axle joint snapped both my front tires stopped spinning. so what I’m asking here is did i mess anything else up like bearing or something in front diff? i was riding later that night and tried 4×4 again just to see if the one good axle would spin but it wouldn’t. when i jack the 4wheeler up off all 4 tires and put it in 4×4 the good axle still spins but when i grab the tire and hit the gas i can hold it then let go and it will start spinning again. thanks in advance

Oil leaking out top of head

01 Racncher 350
I have what looks and smells like rear end gear oil leaking out the top of the head/engine.What could cause this? The engine runs fine oil just running down the side.It is for sure not engine oil.Any Thoughts would be appreciated.

New Rancher ES owner

Hi Everyone. 🙂

I’m the proud owner of a 2015 Rancher ES. It had less than 19 miles on it, and a little over 3 hours of use, according to the computer. My dealer had to have it shipped to them, because they had the cammo, and I wanted the red. I figured that in the woods, I could see a red front end better than a cammo front end. 🙂 I guess you could call it my midlife crisis ATV, as I an 48, (going on 49), and this is the first ATV I’ve ever owned. I really love this thing, but I’ve got some questions. Some may have been answered before, but I couldn’t find them in the search.

1. I’ve put a couple of hours on it, and am just now noticing that when I go into third gear, I get a whine, that sounds almost like a turbo spooling up. It’s a cool sound, but I got a bit worried. Gear changes are no problem, and the fluids are all in and level. As I got it from the dealer as a new ATV, I’d have assumed that they did the checks and maintenance to sell it. I’ve gone back, and checked fluid levels, tight bolts, etc. and all is well except for that whine. After doing a Google search, I have read articles, that tell me that this whine is a normal thing until the gears settle in, and I’ve read articles that say that it’s the front differential… (The 2×4 ES model I have does not have a front differential..). Any thoughts? Other than that whine, the machine runs smooth as silk.

2. I am going to be installing a Superwinch on my ATV soon. Is it best to straight wire into the battery posts, or should I run it through the front wiring harness? I’m thinking straight to the battery is probably the ticket, but I’d like to know from those of you who have done this already. As I said, I’m VERY new to the ATV game… I’m pretty handy with tools and car motors, but motorcycle/ATV/UTV’s are new to me. I figure that the winch will come in handy to pull me out of mud bogs, if I wind up in any, lifting and dropping a snow plow, (somewhere down the road), and helping folks get their cars out of snowdrifts.

3. I love the racks, and the utility value of this ATV, but I do want to get some major mud on the tires. 🙂 Anybody know of any ATV friendly riding trails in Western North Carolina? When I was a lot younger, we’d go to Max Patch, or up Spivey Mountain to ride dirt bikes, and bang up our 4WD trucks, but Spivey is a development now, and from what I understand, those folks up there tend to throw rocks and bottles at riders now. I’m just too old for that scene. 🙂

I’d appreciate any advice I can get. Thanks everyone.
