Motor compatability question
I am wondering if there is any difference at all in these machines besides the plastics and cosmetics. Same engine mounts, etc??
Any help is appreciated.

GPS upgrade/replacement for a Rancher 400?
I have a 2005 Rancher 400 with "GPS" I run thru the Colorado Rocky Mountains. I quoted the term GPS cause it’s only kinda a GPS. As long as you use way points for ever turn you can use it to find your way back to the starting point. There are no GPS maps. I’ve added a Garmin GPS to the ATV but would much rather upgrade the OEM unit if possible.
Can anyone enlighten me to a upgrade to the original OEM display system, or is there a remove and replace with a newer system available?
I can find addons, but not an upgrade to the OEM unit or a plug and play replacement with real GPS maps.
Thank you in advance.

Rancher 350 oil pump failure

I started tearing into the top end. First thing I noticed was the rockers and their holder were toast.
I put in new valve stem seals since the others were hard from being cooked.
I ended up having to cut the piston off because the wrist pin was seized in the rod small end from the heat. Luckily the cam is in the case on this motor or it would have probably been junk also.
I bought a Wiseco .50mm oversize piston kit and had the cylinder bored to match.
Now that I had the top end squared away, I needed to know what caused all this carnage in the first place. I pulled off the oil pump and noticed the shaft on it would not spin. Upon closer inspection I noticed a little metal shard wedged in it. You can just barely see it sticking up in this pic
I thought oh no big deal, a new oil pump is $80. I will replace it slap the top end back on and call it a day. Wrong. When the oil pump locked up it broke the tabs off the balancer. That ruined my day realizing that the case has to be split to change the balancer. Not hard, just a pain in the nuts and takes a long time.
So out comes the motor and onto the work bench to split the case.
Used balancer ($9 w/ free shipping on eBay) back in after having to press out the crank and press it back in.
I’m wondering if this is the culprit for that metal shard getting all the way to the oil pump. I don’t get why Honda made it so you have to SPLIT THE CASE to clean/check the oil screens on this motor. Normally you just have to pull the clutch cover.
Luckily Honda has been using the same screen forever so I already had another one in nice shape so I’m not stalled out waiting for parts again.
That is where I am at for now. I have to basically put everything back together and get the motor back in.
Stay tuned.

Trouble starting Rancher in cold
Hopefully someone has some insight to a possible problem I have been having.
Bought a 2014 Rancher 4×4 footshift this summer new from the dealer. I don’t ride a ton, so I have only put about 20 some odd hours on it since I bought it end of August. The issue I am having is starting the ATV after it has been sitting outside overnight the past couple of times. It has only gotten down to maybe low 30’s, and when I go to start it in the morning it takes 3 tries pressing the starter button before it fires up. Being fuel injected I would think it would start up easier, but maybe this is just how the machine is. Since I bought it I have replaced the engine oil and filter and changed the spark plug. For oil I am using AMSoil 0w-40. Battery was tested at the local auto store and they said it was good. I also have it on a trickle charger when not in use. I am a bit concerned that if it is having trouble starting now, it will be even tougher to start in the dead of winter. It is still under warranty so I will probably call dealer and see if they will look at it, but I wanted to get some opinions on here before I do that.
