2003 rancher carb rebuild/hard to start

Hi All,
I purchased a 2003 Rancher in August that RAN GREAT except my carb leaked. I pulled the carb. and took it to a very reputable shop and had it rebuilt. When I renistalled the carb the Rancher was diffcult to start. After it started it ran fine especially after it warmed up. I parked it or a couple of days and attempted to start it was difficult to start. ( turns over and over and eventully runs, prime the carb and it runs for a few seconds and dies, then after a few attempts it runs fine. A shot of starter fluid and BOOM starts right up then dies). It always runs after enough attempts. I may have connected the vacuum lines wrong. I have not messed with any adjustments because I’m afraid of making it worse. It runs and I can plow snow. Any suggestions???

Thanks Neal
after generous amount of cranking and a long warm up idling period it runs great.

Rancher 350 very ticky sounding engine

I just put a new top end on my ’02 Rancher 350 ES. The valve adjustment procedure on this Honda drives me crazy, it only has one timing mark to line up. I prefer the Yamaha way with a crank mark and a cam mark so you know that you are at top dead center on the compression stroke.

Anyway, the engine runs great, starts quickly and idles perfectly all as it should, it’s just that this is the most ticky sounding valvetrain I have ever heard. It’s driving me crazy, I think it shouldn’t be this loud and ticky sounding in the valvetrain.

is there a better way to set the valves? A better way align the timing mark? Is there another timing mark that the book isn’t telling me about?

I’m ready to install an HMF in hopes that the exhaust noise keeps my mind off of the noisy valvetrain.

Cold start issue

I have a 2013 Rancher. Always started in about any weather — just as my ’07 did. Yesterday (about 20 above zero) it wouldn’t start.

It WOULD fire about 3 times and almost start but then it was like the starter kicked backwards and it wouldn’t continue to fire. I tried several times. No luck.

Anyone have this issue — Fixes??????

Rancher popping out of gear??

I have a Rancher 350 manual shift that has started popping out of gear. Its like it goes into neutral and you can shift it up or down back into gear. Does it in random gears and while normal riding on flat ground. I replaced the clutch disk thinking they be worn, but it didn’t fix it. I’ve read that it could be the "Propeller shaft spring" that’s weak and letting the rear driveshaft slip out? Any help is much appreciated.

gear position indicator/speedo odometer

i have a 2005 rancher 350FM 4×4 manual shift. I would like to install an aftermarket gear position indicator and maybe one which has an odometer or even speedometer combo deal. I was wondering if there was a simple plug and play deal. one which could be plugged up to existing wires or one which can be mounted near the gear shifter that would pick up the motion of the shift lever. I have seen some for around $9.00 that is just the shift position indicator. does anyone know of a compatible gear position indicator or speedometer which includes gear pos info which would work on my particular atv by pluging up to existing factory wire harness or aftermarket deal that I can mount myself like a universal model. any info is appreciated. including website and model so I can search it online and find it. thanks so much.
