Axle Nut Issues

Last year i purchased a set of HD axles from the CV man. i can get the axle nut, the nut that holes the axle in the wheel bearing, to stay tight. when i installed them, the first thing i noticed is that the collar on the nut is thicker making it very hard to bend it over into the slot on the axle. i have torqued them down, put loctite on them and tried my best to bend the collar over.

anyone else run into this problem? I am getting ready to pull the nuts off, drill and tap a small hole in one of the flats and install a set screw.

Grizz vs Rancher

Up until several years ago, the only ATV I had ridden was my dad’s 97 two wheel drive Timber Wolf. It wasn’t a lot of fun as it was uncomfortable and with small tires, bad brakes and foot shift I was always playing catch up with my friends. I didn’t dare go where they did for fear of flipping over.
Well, that finally happened trying to load it on a tip trailer. Messed my arm up bad and after that I knew if I was ever going to ride I would need something heavier with 4WD. Right about then my neighbor put up for sale his 09 Honda Rancher. It was a honey with IRS, power steering, a new trailer only 126 miles on it. Turned out he did the same as I did and flipped it on the first weekend ride. He came home, parked it and decided to collect stamps instead.
After one ride my wife fell in love with it and declared it hers. I had noticed another neighbor selling his ATV as we pulled out on our way to our week long camp out so I rode up to the top of a mountain into cell range and called him. He said it was a 2004 Grizzly 660 which meant nothing to me but the price was right so I told him I would take it and be home Monday to seal the deal. My thoughts were to use this for a year until I could find a matching Ranger for my ride.
First ride out I knew this was a terrific bike. Unlike the Honda there was no shifting going on at weird times, it was really stable and a very plush ride. This all came back to me this week as I was changing oil on both bikes, which lead to detailing them out with SC1, which lead to comparing rides in my back yard. Putting aside the fact that 660cc is ahead of 420cc this Grizzly is the bike that the Rancher should be. While I think the Rancher is a better small trail bike, especially with that power steering, I would be nuts giving up the big platform Grizzly for another Rancher.
Bottom line is, don’t let the glitz of a new ride and a matched set idea sway you from quality and superior engineering. Besides….after a can of that SC1 spray, the old grizz is looking pretty sweet!

Grizzly edition T shirt EHS Racing need a pic

Hey guys I’m getting some new t-shirts made up again finally. I want to make a grizzly 700 edition and I need a picture of a really nice bike or overall nice picture for the artist guys to work with that do the drawing.

If you want your bike to be the one put up a picture or send it to me so I can choose which one to work with. I will send you a couple free tshirts also.

no snorkeld bikes unless you hid the snorks sorry (they don’t coincide with the EHS Lid very well :).)

my vision is something at a slight angle on a nice terrain maybe some larger rocks but anything can work the tshirt guys have some very skilled artist that redo everything they just need something to start with

trying to get some performance out of a 660..questions

hi all..i’m new on here..been riding some over the day,and wanted to ask a few general questions..i have an 02 660 thats stock other than 28/10/12 and 28/12/12 tires..looking to get a lil perfomance out of it before i put my lift and snorkel kit on it

there are no rock climbing over here,so basically looking for all around performace increase’s..mostly going to ride some trails..and a lil mudding..but nothing crazy..only reason i’m putting on the lift and snorkels ,is because it came with it..and it looks good 🙂

anyway, have a new belt for it,and have narrowed it down so far to getting a shaved sheave ,as a good start

i’m guessing the snorkel setup will require a jet change..i’m thinking it has a k-n in it..but if not, anyone suggest a good filter? and good jet kit?

have thought about a muffler..but there are alot to choose from..so,any suggestions on that,or anything else that would give me a lil increase in performance, let me know.thanks in advance!

Fuel injection

Hello everyone 🙂

As always im just curious about yamaha’s reliability and now i want to know If any of You have experienced any problems with fuel injection system. Like carb is much simplier than Fi but maybe in FI there is no things to get wrong.

do I need these skid plate spacers?

Hello all, haven’t stopped in here for a while. Ever since I moved to South FL a few years ago, I haven’t been riding much.

I’ve got Aluminum Products skids. I’ve taken them off plenty of times, but it’s been about 3 years, and I seem to have forgotten how they fit back together. Specifically, the skid plates that go under the foot boards. Each foot board skid plate comes with a few cylinder shaped spacers. However, I’m wondering whether I need them at all? They seem to make the skids seat incorrectly, and they don’t give me enough bolt length to put the washer and nut on.

Any advice? Can I remove them or are they necessary?
