Observations/Questions – 2016 708 motor

I’ve had this 2016 Kodiak now for about 2 ½ months. It has about 165 miles and about 22 hours. Since new two things have been going on that I’m not sure are normal.

Since new and after sitting all night, it takes 2 tries of the starter button to fire up. The first try, it fires but immediately stalls. On the second try it starts right up. Is this normal? My procedure is to turn the key to ON and the red kill switch to ON, then wait about 10-15 seconds before hitting the green start button. I would have thought that the fuel injection/computer system would be able to run on the first try. If this is not normal, then I will take it in for warranty service. I run only ethanol free gasoline.

Also since new, the electric cooling fan seems to run a lot. I shutdown using the red kill switch and leave the key on until the fan shuts off. This often takes (seems like) 4-5 minutes. The coolant level is at max line on the overflow bottle when cold. I’m really not working the bear that hard. Normal?

I would be interested in hearing from others with this same motor.

Overall it has been an awesome purchase. Neither "problem" is a showstopper, just annoying.

Dealership Warranty BS

Well here goes my first rant…

I bought my grizz new in January this year 2015 and have had an amazing time with it ever since, after the first few rides i noticed the 4WD selctor switch was acting up, i did some research on GC and seemed to be a somewhat common issue on the 2014’s and 15’s, ok no biggie, worse stuff could happen, then i also noticed a small clicking from my front axles only when turning but every thing seemed tight and good. so what the heck, let me take her in to get looked at and get the switch replaced, i have my normal warranty and i even bought the extended Yamaha warranty.

From my house theirs 3 dealerships with in about 43 miles, the first one that was the closets i called and had a bad time talking to the service manager and the store manager so i started looking at reviews on Google and Yelp… lots of bad and crappy reviews that were going along with my short expierence with them, so i called the next closest one and they were 3 weeks behind on work but had somewhat decent reviews, so lastly i called the dealership i bought the grizz from and they were only 1.5 weeks behind and had fairly good reviews so i took it in.

when i dropped off the grizz the "clerk" that checked me in and filled out my paperwork did a good job of asking a lot of good questions and typing up every detail i described about what was going on, espically for the selector switch. So now its about a month later and i finally called the dealership and spoke with the service manager and in regards to the axles they said since they arnt royally FUBAR’d or broke then they cant replace them, which i kinda figured and im ok with that, and for the selector switch…. i was told "Well sir when we test it and test drive it the issue only comes up some times and not all the time, and with out it being completely failed then i cant replace it" Whats funny is that when i brought the grizz in they openly admitted to knowing of this issue and that they have had a hand full of warranty claims about it for the exact same issues… now im getting told that since its not completely destroyed they cant do any thing, what kind of crap is that… so i explained to the service manager that im not a complete moron and i work in the mechanical field service industry so i now all about warranty claims and warranty work and this is crap, i told him that i will be picking her up this afternoon and i will be fixing the issue my self,

i also figured while im their that i will go talk with the store owner (whom i know will be their today) and tell him to cancel my extended warranty, whats the point of paying for and having it if i cant get any use out of it when im still with in the original factory warranty…

you live and learn i guess, i’ll update tonight or tomorrow with how this all ended up going, either way they will not be working on my grizz again i can promice you that 👿

Bought yamaha

Ok hello gc. So į bought Yamaha grizzly 700. Į think its 2007 by vin number. Well first day mine friend flipped it and it shoved code 30. Then it stalled. Į rolled back and i tryed to start it at first it shoved code 30 and į putted key off and then on and it started. Iš there anything to worry about?

squeaking noise in 09 450 grizz

:getrdone:
my 450 has been squeaking on and off for the last year. I greased the A arms several times but it keeps squeakin. I just ordered stock replacement shocks front and back(ouch) cists less for shocks on a 4wd truck lol. The machine barely has 2200 miles on it. What is the life expectancy on A- arm bushings and knuckle bushings and if I have to change should I go stock or is there a better aftermarket replacement ??? Read a few reviews on peoples experiences and some prefer stock, because aftermarketeers they dealt with had sizing /clearance issues.
I am hoping the shocks are the problem, I know one of my rears is leaking but noise is primarily up front and low, Who has the best prices on these bushings, I think it’s criminal that a .25 cent piece of rubber/plastic costs so much to purchase, when it is probably manufactured in a sweatshop overseas:gcrules:

16 owners question

I took my rear plastics off to grease everything and found this, I’m assuming maybe leads for power and ground wire for a reverse light or something….I could be wrong also that’s why I’m asking it is running along the frame right behind the fuel neck

Lights

I would like to add some lights to my grizz. Noticed my head one head light is pointed to hi. Any tips on how to point in the right direction. Any suggestions on improving the lighting for on the the dark trails after a day of hunting

Grizzly 125 – great little quad

Picked up an 09 for my youngest daughter a while ago. Super easy to do maintenance on and built really well.

Took her to lost trails in PA yesterday. What a great quad! That little beast went darn near through everything my 700 did. Sure there was a few waterholes that were too deep and one section of rocks that hung her up once. But besides that, she ripped through everything on it.

Having an auto with reverse for a quad that size is priceless for trail riding.

That’s it, just had to share how happy I was with that little beast, it was fantastic seeing the smile on her face when she blasted through all of the trails !

Hope you all got out to ride this weekend, trails in the Fall are fantastic.

Done with Polaris!!! Eyeing up a new Grizzly

Soo… this past riding season has been a nightmare. My once beloved 2012 Polaris Sportsman 850 XP saw more time in the garage than riding. With only 2000 miles on it it was one thing after another. Yesterday my wife finally had a chance to ride with me. One week ago I just got the thing back together. I had to replace u joints on the prop shaft. We get 30 miles into our easy, dirt road ride and I hear this whining noise. I pull over and low and behold BOTH hubs on front diff are loose. Now my bearings inside the diff are both bad!!!??? At 2000 miles? Come on Polaris…really!? That was final straw for me. Started doing some research and found that its pretty common for things to go downhill around 2000 mile mark on an 850. So its getting traded in….and I am looking at the Yamahas. The 700 Grizzly to be exact. I see they are selling the 2015 to make room for the 2016 models. Everyone says they are superior to polaris and I compared the parts schematics of 850 to that of the Grizzly. Polaris has this habit of making the common wear items available as an assembly. Didnt see much of that on the Griz. Also Griz looks much easier to work on. Sometimes you get feeling Polaris designed stuff so you have to take it to the stealership. Anyways…. I am looking for everyones input on their grizzlies!!! Is it fairly easy for a second person to ride on it? Sometimes my wife will ride with me. This doesn’t happen alot though. Most of time I am solo.
