HELP.. jumps into gear, but one way bearing is correct.

First post! what whattt

Alright.. so I bought my 2008 grizzly 660 this summer for $1800 (the price told me it was going to need some work). Mainly bought it to teach myself & to tinker on.

I can’t figure out the problem I’m having right now and it’s pretty aggravating b/c I’ve been tinkering since June and I’m ready to ride. I’ve replaced both front sheaves (the fixed sheave 2 times now), the clutch, the bell housing, mainly everything to do with the belt area I’ve replaced. Still having a slight problem.. When I put it into gear, it jumps and wants to die, but if I give it some gas it’ll go. MY ONE WAY BEARING IS IN THE CORRECT WAY. Once I put it into gear there’s no going back to neutral (unless I cut it back off). If you try, it’ll slam into reverse and cut off. Scared to drive it because I don’t want to mess any of my new parts up.

So I’m absolutely lost.. Idk if the highlifter clutch spring would have anything to do with it. Because once you get it into drive and running for a little while, when you slow down it won’t stop.. it wants to keep pushing the tires.

Any help would be awesome.. because like I said I’m 100% lost on what to do now.

Cylinder Bolt Question

I have to replace the piston and rings in my Grizz. I believe I remember reading that the cylinder bolts should be replaced when doing this. Do I replace only the 4 bolts that mount the cylinder? or should I also replace the 4 that mount the head to the cylinder as well?

It’s only been a little over 800 miles (3 years or so sadly) since I had the HC piston put in, now it’s smoking a bit and last ride used 9ozs of oil for 32 miles. I had a bunch of things replaced including the timing chain. Do you think I should replace that as well since my guy will be in there anyway?

Any other suggestions while it’s apart, Thanks?

Got spark and gas but will not run help me get it running

Ok so bought this grizzly 450 2007 not running. I orginally thought no spark due to the fact I could spray starter fluid into the intake and not get a response. So I changed spark and tested it on the side of the motor Def getting spark. Still no start. I cleaned the carb and still no start. So I’m thinking either mechanical timing is out or the woodruff key has snapped on the flywheel.

So proceeding on I have the crankcase cover off the pull and examine the woodruff key. Now once I verify that the key is good or bad how would I go about pressing the rotor back on.

2011 Grizz 700 running problems – Solved!

I had a hard time starting and keeping it running after it sat most of the summer. Fuel had Stabel in it so I didn’t think it was that. A mouse made a little home under the front cover and chewed on the wires I installed for the winch hook-up. Fortunately, that’s all it chewed on. I now leave the cover off when storing (with a little poison nearby).

I did a little research on this site and read a good number of posts saying to change the plug. I ordered a new spark plug and changed it out. It now fires right up and runs great. What’s up with these plugs just going bad. The old plug looked pretty normal with no excessive wear on the electrode. It was the original with about 87 hours on it. I’m just happy it was only an $8 fix.

How many PSI compression is normal

I am working on a 2001 Grizzly 600 my hunting club picked up for next to nothing. It doesn’t run. I have been going though it from stem to stern, cleaning grounds, cleaning fuel tank and testing everything. It needed a new starter solenoid, battery and carburetor. Just waiting for the new carb to fire it up. Compression PSI is 190. That seems high for an engine with a compression ratio of 8.5:1. I tested it with the carb removed so the engine is breathing well. Should I be concerned or is 190 psi a normal reading.

PS. I am at sea level altitude

2007 grizzly 80 not running right

I bought a 2007 grizzly 80 that has been sitting for 2 years and not running. I have put in a new battery, drained all the gas, cleaned the tank,k&n air filter, spark plug, fuel petcock, fuel filter, fuel line also bought a carburetor rebuild kit with bigger jets (15 for the pilot and 80 for the main. The problem I am having is that the grizzly 80 will idle and run at full throttle but breaks up every where else. I figured it was the needle but the stock one from a grizzly isn’t adjustable. So I went and bought a new needle I have adjusted to all 5 spots on the needle and it still breaks up from 1/4 throttle to about 3/4 throttle. I have let the carburetor soak in carb cleaner for 5 hours and disassembled it removing the jets, air screw, and idle screw. I have also blown out the carburetor with compressed air numerous times. I have the air screw sit at about 11/8 turns out. I am stumped on this bike and have to get it running before Christmas does anyone have any idea what I could be missing.

Will not run

I was riding my 06 grizzly 660 last week and it started spitting and sputtering and dash lights kept getting dimmer then it shut off and would not start back up. Seemed like the battery. Replaced battery and starter solenoid (because the parts store is 30 min from home)and NOTHING happened, it seems like the new battery is to weak. Pull plug out and it spins over strong and is getting fire. Put plug back in and its like the battery is to weak even with it on charger.
