600 grizz decompression question.

Hi all. I just picked up a 98 600 grizzly that’s in pristine condition. Very tight bike with no cosmetic damage. But, as most of these do, it’s burning oil heavily and has some really bizarre knocking and slapping noises.

I got the top end off. What a treat… Rounded 3 of the valve cover bolts and had to drill the heads of the bolts off. Very tight clearances because I left the motor in the bike. Real fun! Lol.

My question is about the decompression setup. I noticed that when I push on the weights to open up the decompression/ raise the cam pin, it takes very little effort. I can’t imagine it being normal as it just feels so loose and flimsy. It barely wants to return. Is that normal? Or do u think that I need a new spring under the pin? This setup is all new to me.

Any helping greatly appreciated. Thanx.

Not shifting in and out of Low high etc smoothly

I recently got some mud in my rear cvt intake. No funny sounds but i knew there was mud in my cvt but it shifted fine. so i removed the cover washed all the dirt out belt looked fine i didn’t take anything apart inside. Got it all back together and now its giving me a hard time trying to put it into the different gears. Especially high to low. even when i forced it to low the wheeler stayed in high. Any advice? Should i take it somewhere to have it professionally cleaned? Thanks

660 grizzly carb to efi conversion possible?

Hey everyone I was just wondering if it was possible to do a conversion from carb to efi on a2002 yamaha grizzly 660? The reason I ask is because some how my brand new carb is letting water, mud, and sand into it and plugging up the jets. I even tried putting in a in line fuel filter to help but still getting plugged up jets. Getting kinda tired of taking the carb off after every ride to unplug the jets and thought that an efi conversion might be possible. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be awesome. Thanks again everyone

Griffin VS epi clutch kits.

In the market for a clutch kit for my 600. Parts are in the mail but it will be lifted 2 inches with the highlighter kit, on vision 359 wheels, with 28 vampire EDL tires. Has a supertrapp mudslinger exhaust, and rejetted. Will be snorkeled soon. I’m in the market for a clutch kit and have narrowed it down to the EPI and the Griffin. I have seen videos of both pulling the front tires off the ground with ease, I just don’t know the difference between the kits other than the price! $190 for the EPI for 27-28 tires, and $75 for the 20-30 tire kit from Griffin.

Anybody have experience with either kit? Any help is appreciated. I have read about the sheaves being machined but I’m looking for a kit that will just be a put in and go kind of thing, as I’m not a dedicated mud rider, and my tires aren’t HUGE. Just looking to help the grizzly have a little more pep out of the hole and turn some bigger tires easier. Thanks guys!

2001 grizzly 600 carb issue. Need confirmation.

Hello everybody. First post here. Just picked up a 2001 grizzly 600. With 1500 miles and in good shape. Bought it for $1000 dollars. Runs and drive, just had a rough running problem. Would idle fine, but when you would romp on the throttle it would bog, pop and backfire while shooting flames. I then replaced the carb, carb boot, and the fuel petcock. Runs better, throttle response is good, pulls good, but sometimes when just running at 1/4 throttle, putting along, it’ll cough and fall on its face and pop. I have since noticed it has a full supertrapp mudslinger exhaust. I’m thinking it’s running lean. So I was going to rejet the carb, and hope that solves it. I’m running the air fuel screw out 3 turns. Can anyone confirm this for me and maybe point me in the right direction as to what size jets to use? Thanks everybody!

2006 Grizzly 660 Carb Help

Hello everyone. I am getting my quad back up and running and replaced the carb & petcock as they were both leaking and it was a pain to try to remember to turn the gas off when riding. I installed both new parts and assumed everything was great after initial startup.

Went to ride and when you put the bike under load down low (under 1/4 throttle) the bike loads up and back fires/ stalls. I have adjusted the air/fuel screw everyway possible as it is my understanding this is what controls under 1/4 throttle fuel. I have posted the video to show how the bike runs. All other ranges (idle, quick rev, and wot) are fine. Just can seem to fine how to get it to stop loading up on fuel down low.

Bike ran perfect before replacing the carb. Only engine mod is snorkels and uni filter.

2016 Grizzly SE COLD START!?

All,

Tonight here in michigan with roughly 25 degree temps outside, I was in awe at how slowly the motor turned over during starting. I currently have 10w40 yamalube in this machine with 150 miles on it, and it sat for about a week since last ride. I then googled "yamaha grizzly 700 cold starting" and found many issues with this!

What are you all doing to combat this issue that is NOT a secret as I read? Besides synthetic oil.. does any manufacturer make a larger cold cranking amp battery for these quads? I will NOT be a happy camper should this thing fail to start for me in winter time. I read that some folks depress the throttle a bit while cranking?
I understand that the compression on this single cylinder beast makes this issue more prominent, but I would have thought that yamaha would have installed compression relief valves for cold startup if they knew they had a cold starting issue? Someone put my mind to ease please? THANK YOU.
