Now you see it…now you don’t….

So, my front diff started weaping out the shaft seal back in May. It hasn’t been bad, so I have been monitoring it. Last weekend we were riding on Sunday and the wet weather we have been having promised lots of mud, so I decided to change my diff fluid just to keep it clean. I had some Yamalube friction modified shaft gear oil left over from my 450, so I used that to change both the front and back. Strange as it may sound, not a drop has leaked out since I did the change. I also checked the vent tube to make sure it wasn’t obstructed. I ran my finger around the shaft last night and not a spec of oil after 35 miles of heavily utilizing 4wd…not a trace! I had synthetic in it before from the dealer, so I am wondering if it was just too thin or maybe Yamalube has a better additive package. Anyway, I thought I would share my findings.

07 700 EFI, sometimes dies when applying throttle

I tried searching for this problem, but I found a lot of hits for this kind of thing happening with carbureted models, not fuel injected ones. Also, this does not seem like a fuel delivery issue to me.

Basically, what happens is that I will start up the machine, and it will idle just fine. When I push the throttle, most of the time it goes just fine, no issues.

But once in a while, so randomly that I can’t even give you a percentage, the engine will just suddenly stop when I start pushing the throttle. It doesn’t bog down and act like a fuel-starved beast and then finally quit. There’s no time to let off the throttle, it happens instantaneously – like in the blink of an eye. It’s idling fine one instant, and then (blink) and it’s off. it always starts right back up again afterward.

Do you have any idea what this might be about?
It has been to the shop for this problem, and they were clueless.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.
