new carb …new problem 600 grizz

As most of you know from recent post. I tried rebuilding my old carb but I never could get the float to stop sticking. so I bought a new one. I installed it yesterday. adJusted the idle and it sounded great. no leaks. but when I dialed the idle to spec it back fired thru the carb and blew it off. the old carb never did that. also it only happens at low idle. mid to high idle it never happens. I checked the timing and valve lash to make sure that wasn’t the issue. is there an adjustment for this? It’s not a mikuni. it’s a khe? Any advice would be great

Carb help

I don’t know if I need a bigger hammer or not! I have a 98 Grizzly 600. A while back, the gas would leak out because, apparently, the needle was not seating to shut the gas off. I bought a carb overhaul kit and installed it, but now have a new problem.

We found the rubber carb mount cracked, so we replaced it with a new one when we removed the carb. When we started it up, it started easily and idled nicely. I drove it around the bottom of our track and it felt nice and maybe a little stronger than before. I then opened it up to about half throttle and everything was good. I punched it to full throttle and the response was great. I then held wot and suddenly it felt like the engine died. I came off the throttle and it was running great again.

I then took it down to a straight stretch and held wot. It accelerated very well, but after a couple seconds felt like it ran out of gas, then picked up, then ran lost power again and continued this every second or two.

First thing I did was double check the fuel level. It was just above the fuel bowl joint, so it seems to be pretty close to right. We went back in and found the main jet was a 144 instead of 145 (apparently the aftermarket kits have different sizes than the original Makuni jets). We have tried the 145, 147.5, 150, and 152.5, all of which give the same result. The larger jets still stumble, but it seems as if the bike recovers faster. We raised the needle 1 notch but did not notice any difference.

We didn’t have a new plug to install, but used a slightly used one that was a little black, but when we checked it it looked as if it was burning off as it was not as black as original. (The local store was out of plugs for this thing so we have a few on order.)

I know this is a long post, but I am hoping somebody will read it and suggest something simple I have apparently missed.

Thanks for any suggestions.

2007 grizzly 700 rough idle to wont idle

Hey everyone I need help figuring out what is wrong with my grizzly.
2007 grizzly 700
734 big bore with 5mm stoker crank making it like a 778 or so I believe.
I have a dyno jet pcv with auto tune on it.
stock exhaust.
stock airbox with extra venting put in it and uni filter.
stock cam

So it runs great just doesnt idle for crap.

I just took out the throttle body and cleaned it and took apart the idle control valve thing and didn’t see anything weird. Not sure how that thing is supposed to work.
I also re adjusted my valves they were a little tight I set them to the loose end of the spec. still wont idle.
Please help
Jim

03 Kodiak won’t start

hi. I have a 2003 Yamaha kodiak 400 4×4. 2 weeks ago it was running. but for some reason the next day it wouldn’t turn on. Right know it just cranks but won’t start. and also I tried to turn it on a lot of times and it just made a popping noise in the engine. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX IT ??

Ran a compression test today

I was just curious as to what I had at 5500 miles. It came out to 93 psi on two separate test’s.

Taking into account the altitude, 9000 feet….this is good!

I called the technician that has done a lot of work on my quad and asked him about it, he said anything over 90 psi is excellent. They have a hard time getting anything up to 100 psi around here.

New Member!!!!! Old Question!!!!

Alright guys, I’ve lurked the forums for a while now, and figured it was time to make an account so i could get a final question answered. I have a 2013 550 Grizz with 29.5 terms of some 14 inch msa elixir wheels, with 1.5 inch spacers all the way around, and had my primary sent off to Arnie Cooper and he machined it for me. I also have a gold epi secondary spring installed as well. I have no problem whatsoever with turning the tires, more so enough that i hardly ever put it in low anymore. I am 100% thrilled with my bike the way it sits, but as I’m sure you all know enough is never enough. Haha. So im just curious as to any suggestions on what weights to run. I’m not going to go greasless, just because of the fact it came with grease I’m going to put grease in it, just don’t quite understand with weather i need to go heavier or lighter and what would be better for me. All i do is mud ride, I’m from the south. lol. I still run plenty fast enough, so I’m not worried about top speed, just wanting more low end grunt. i want to be able to stab it and the wheels pull up. I can get it to wheelie with some body language on it the way it sits, just want more. Any help here would be appreciated fellas!!!!
