Machined Sheave/Shim/Performance Question

As per my signature, I have an 08 Grizzly 700. Before machined sheave I had a ratio of 2.6:1. After machined sheave I had 2.8:1. After 1 mm of shim I now have 3.0:1.

I honestly cannot notice a difference in performance after machined sheave and shim. Yesterday, I raced against a stock 2007 Grizzly. It has a ratio of 2.55:1.

The 07 has 26 inch Mudlites with some miles on them so fairly worn. They currently measure 24 inches tall (rear)

The 08 has newer Bearclaws that currently measure 25.5 inches tall (rear).

Both riders weigh about the same. I had some extra weight in a storage box than the 07. I’m going to say around 15 pounds. Both quads have about the same milage.

When we raced, he blew me out of the hole and had almost two full length of a quad on me up to about 45 miles per hour until we let off. We tried this a couple of times. Same result.

I have mentioned on here before that my quad has always been the slowest out of my group. We all have 07-08’s.

I realize that the tire difference is quite significant between these two quads. But, with me having a machined sheave and 1 mm shim is my machine running as good as it should?? None of my other riding buddies have any mods so I can’t make any direct comparisons there to personally see how other machines have improved after various mods. .My knowledge is from reading this forum.

Thoughts?

Thank you.

Belt scrape and hitting.

If installing a shim to a clutch that already has the coop 2&3 mods where is it that I have to make sure my belt doesn’t scrape? I have noticed that it is hitting the housing on the secondary side when I opened it up and that’s without the shim installed yet. Thanks.

Grizz 700 big bore stroker or turbo???????

Well its been a while since i’ve been on here and i put lots of hard miles on my grizz. But as of now im craving more power. Im thinking of going another route in the power department maybe go with a big bore stroker kit or another option would be a turbo kit. For the turbo i was thinking of using a gt12. I have only seen one or two of them but i have seen tons of big bore strokers. What do u guys think of the turbo setup and the big bore stroker? Think im looking into making it a 780 if i do

660-719 bbk reliability?

I just bought another grizzly. It’s an 03 660, with 3,000 mileson it. was run to deep and turned off in the water, blah blah blah. end result was a knock in the bottom end. and a 1000 dollar grizzly. I bought it site un-seen, and doing some research on rebuilding it has shown me the 719 kits, but even with some searching I can’t find anyone stating if they have had good reliability out of them or not. Most threads on here end up dead in the middle of the story so does anyone have actual experience with them?

not good throttle response on 660

Ok I got a stock 02 660 the problem I’m having is it seems "flood" out, I think, when I cram my thumb into the gas. I can barely pull a wheelie. anything after 1/4 throttle is all fine power wise. I did just put on a nut buster intake on tonight but didn’t seem to change anything. I’ve got all the stock jets in, I’ve got the idle air at 2 1/2 turns out… When I pull choke it get worse.. What do I need to do to get that "efi" throttle response? Do I need to change jets, change needle placement, adjust air fuel screw?? Or am I just expecting too much out of my carbureted grizzly? I’m no expert on these carbs but cleaned and fixed a few carbs.. I’m gunna be doing a air filter mod with the clamp on style filter soon also (see signature to see what’s been done) I did clip 4 coils off the needle spring and did seem to help. Please someone chin in on this problem.

CV Joint Boots – O’Reily Auto Parts

In case anyone is interested O’Reily Auto Parts can get Prime Line ATV Parts. Per the Prime Line Outdoor Power Equipment Service Parts Catalog for ATV/UTV Parts they have listed the Inner & Outer CV Joint Boots for Grizzly 700s, 2007 thru 2014 and they carry a 1 year warranty. Prime Line is carrying a whole assortment of ATV/UTV parts, from brakes, regulators, starters, wheel bearings, gaskets, suspension parts, 3 types of tires (1 of which is a Big Horn tread pattern in a 6 ply radial), and more.
http://www.primelinepe.com/wp-conten…Res-8-7-15.pdf

For the 2007 thru 2014 Grizzly 700 the front and rear Inner CV Joint Boots are the same p/n 72-1179 (shaft I.D. -17 mm; CV Boot I.D. – 59 mm; Length – 86 mm) for $13.99 including boot, bands, & grease.

For the 2007 & 2008 Grizzly 700 the front and rear Outer CV Joint Boots are the same p/n 72-1193 (shaft I.D. -17 mm; CV Boot I.D. – 62.5 mm; Length – 80 mm) for $13.99 including boot, bands, & grease.

For the 2009 thru 2014 the front and rear Outer CV Joint Boots are the same p/n 72-1186 (shaft I.D. -18 mm; CV Boot I.D. – 64 mm; Length – 97 mm) for $13.99 including boot, bands, & grease.

Per the pictures on O’Reily’s computer screen the boots, bands, container of grease all look identical to the Yamaha OEM inner boot, bands, and grease I just bought at a Yamaha Dealer. Yamaha OEM #3B4-2510H-00-00.

I have ordered 1 of each (Inner & Outer Boots) from O’Reily’s to compare the actual Prime Line Boot to the Yamaha OEM Boot.

Prime Line also carries the CV Joint Boots for the Grizzly 550, 600, 660, & Viking UTV They also list the wheel bearings p/n 72-1048 for $24.99, may order 1 of those to compare to see if it is the Koyo bearing, unless someone else wants to be the guinea pig.

Will update as I get more information.
