Wet Belt? Grizzy 660

I have a grizzly 660 that is new to me, but I think its an 06 model. Runs perfect as far as cranking, idling, riding down the road.

Today while duck hunting it stalled in high water and I noticed there was no plug in the bottom of the air box. We were miles and miles from any help and since the engine was not submerged, we tipped it on its rear for a bit to drain and then cranked it and it is running perfect as far as engine.

However, the belt (or clutch?) is now slipping. Give it gas and once you are past 1/4 clutch everything just revs but no power to the wheels. It is snorkled and one of the snorkles did blow some white smoke which smelled like burned water.

do the Grizzly’s have a sealed belt system that got water in it? Or is it a coincidence and the belt probably just needs to be replaced from normal wear and tear?

I need to expect this bike to perform well in high water on a regular basis, so if this is to be expected regularly I may have to sell.

Thanks for the help

Wet clutch blow up

If your wet clutch blows up does this mean the end for your motor? Would the fragments get into the motor workings? I watched a utube on the install of the c clips on the wet clutch and the video talked about a sharp side and I cannot say with my eyes I could notice a difference. they seemed to snap in good so I need to go in and redo the c clips? I tested it out and all seems to be working.

Wet clutch springs

Hey there guys, just wondering if this idea is feasible. I have a 350, and all I need out of a clutch kit is 500 stall springs. OK well since I have a 350, what if I put 400, 450, or maybe even 650 springs. Won’t that be the same thing. I asked the parts guy at the nearest yamaha dealer, he said he didn’t know. He just deals with parts numbers all day. What yall think I should order to start, 400 or 450?

Breaking in hard??

Ive owned and rebuilt a few 400ex’s and KTM 125’s all used in harescrambles. This is going to be my first utility quad besides a 250 suzuki 2wd.

I have always been told to break motors in hard during the first 20 miles to seat the rings and they will last longer. My ktm i broke it in as book said and motor made it about 20 hours and second time I rebuilt it I made 120 hours and hard hard riding before I tore it down. I know the 400ex’s are bullet proof but I rode the ever loving snot out of it after i put the hot cam and 440 big bore kit in it. Once it was warm it was wide open for me.
Never had a single issue!

I am wondering if anyone is doing the same? 200 Easy miles seems very very conservative to me? Maybe its the wet clutch vs manual?

Dr. Pulley

I am Looking at these Dr. Pulley weights for my 08 grizzly 700 but theres lots of different gram weights. i am planning on putting 26” ITP mudlights on it so im looking for any input on which size i should get. Thanks for any help.

CVT weight question

Most of my riding is rocky/bumpy trails in the mountains of New Mexico. Elevation is between 4,000-8,000 ft.
I tend to ride around 15-20 MPH. I installed 1.5mm shims to lower the powerband for slow climbing. I would like the ATV to "upshift" sooner to lower the RPMs for quiet cruising. I don’t care about power loss due to gearing. If my understanding of the CVT mechanism is correct, I would want to install heavier weights to allow the primary clutch to squeeze together sooner to accomplish this.

Two questions:
1. Is my thinking on this correct?
2. If "yes" to above, what weights would you suggest?

2012 Grizzly 550
1.5mm shims
2006 Polaris Sportsman X2 rear shocks (much improved ride)
swaybar delete
25" SwampWitch tires

660 Caburator Leaking

I started my grizz up and saw that gas was leaking from the overflow. I took it apart, cleaned it and replaced the needle, needle seat, and set the floats to 13mm.

Put it back together and it still leaked.

I proceeded to take it apart again, clean it and replaced the float (set to 13mm). Once again, it started leaking.

I am at a total loss! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
