My Turbo is Running Richer and Richer?

OK, I only have 35 hours on my K&T Air/Water Alba built turbo system. It sits at the vacation home and I don’t get out there very often anymore. Last trip I noticed the AFR was running mid 10’s while just cruising around. It even got to the point where it sat at 10 and would not really budge very often. Had some newbies with me so we did not spend much time in the boost. Just wondering if anyone has an idea on what might be happening? I was able to get the idle back down by making some adjustments to the Alba/Dobeck fuel controller. I did not want to play with this but Nate is backed up 2 months.

In the past, I have had issues with the rubber intake boots…they lasted about 30 min. Then the first billet manifold lasted a couple of hours before it needed to be fixed as I got one of the first 10 that had a small design error. By the way, K&T paid for Alba to fix that….talk about a stand up company! Not sure if that is the problem but it did feel like it was bogging or lagging a bit before building boost. Thank you

Fuel System Upgrade

Well — I’ve burned up yet again another stock fuel pump. I readily admit — I’ve been lazy – And have just been replacing with another stock fuel pump. And as time has passed – No one has come out with a complete retrofit fuel system replacement.

It’s absolutely amazing that the Sparks 1110 engine has held up to the abuse I’ve put it thru using just the stock fuel system. Well — This is about to change as I re-invent the wheel and build a fuel system that will handle 300 BHP at a minimum .. .. .. :rofl3:

I’ve ran across many/many sites/forums with valuable tidbits of information. Here is just one site that has a great deal of information if one clicks each tab and reads — Here’s the site:

Linkie

Read thru all the tabs as there is much valuable and informative information — Even including the tab — Deadbeats .. .. .. Oops .. :rofl3:

Course then again — That V4 bike engine conversion has me thinking .. .. 🙂

FUN Times .. .. :ride:

Let’s talk timing, fuel, and boost

My build:

1065cc Spark’s big block closed deck cylinder
9.0:1 CP pistons
Carrillo rods
ARP head studs
HD timing chain tensioner
Beehive valve springs and HD buckets
PCV – PTI with autotune….

So thats my motor, what would you guys feel comfortable with (boost level?) running 91 octane and what timing to pull? .5/1psi or 1 degree per 1psi? I would like at least 10 psi but I know that’s probably at the line…

What about 107 – 110 octane using boostane additive? How does this change your timing plan and what is max safe boost?

E85 I will be running stock timing tables and run up to 15psi…. no issues other then my concern for the E85 vanishing and causing other issues. I don’t ride all the time so E85 could sit in the tank for a month, that’s concerning…

Hard to decide which route to go.

Alba Racing built XP1000 K&T Turbo with AEM Standalone Dyno

Thought I would share a short video of baseline dyno pull of a build we have been working on. This car has the following:

9.0: CP forged pistons
Carrillo HD rods
Alba ported head
+1mm KW intake valves
+1mm KW exhaust valves
Beehive Valve Springs
HD Buckets
HD-Auto tensioner
ARP head studs

K&T Performance Garrett Turbo kit
AEM Infinity Stand Alone ECU
STM Z-1 Conversion Clutch

This is 10psi and made 130RWHP. We are about to turn it up to 18psi and see what we can make!

Engine build, cylinder scoring, thoughts please

I started pulling my motor apart today to install my CP low compression pistons and found that polaris had not tightened down an intake hose clamp and it had sucked some dust. It has 43 hours and 4xx miles but no telling how long it has been going on. My fault for not catching it. It felt tight ish but clearly not tight enough.

It was running great and not using any oil before disassembly. Naturally I checked the cylinders over really good and could see some visual scoring but when running the finger over them, I feel nothing. However when I run my fingernail over them, I can jusy feel 1 or 2 of them, but still very minor. I have definitely ran worse before, but not on a boosted engine.

I would greatly appreciate your opinion whether I should throw it together and try it , big bore kit, or just replace the stock cylinder? Other options? I am kinda on a budget but if not reusing the cylinder is a must, I can deal with that.

I like the sparks BBK as it uses a closed deck design, but I feel that going to 96mm pistons may make my stock rods less adequate to hold up to 15psi on E85… thoughts?
