Hello everyone, I recently wrote my 2010 800 renegade off in the mountains and am going to replace it with another one. I was into my local dealer and looked at the 2016’s. Wow…89hp in the 1000 and 78hp in the 850. I mostly ride trails in manitoba and venture out to the rockys once or twice a year. My initial thought is get the 1000 XXC but could mod the 850 with front skid, winch, bar warmers for the same price as the 1000xxc. So the big question is the 1000 worth the extra money??
Well as some know I have had numerous posts of motor issues and drivetrain problems..
Did a complete rebuild and threw it back together.. To come to find out that the bike would only make it through the break in period before having more motor issues.. The hard starts and not running after getting up to temp combined with the high pitched squeak behind the primary led me to believe my main bearing was seized.
My thoughts were correct.. The main bearing on the pto cover side took a crap… All brand new bearings, pressed in, oil collector holes lined up, etc.
That being said I think that’s just my sign to let the thing go and move onto another bike. Probably looking at a 2012 brute force that was only ridden 4 times. Close friends of mine.
This is a great forum and has been helpful. I’ll chime in once and awhile. But I’m going to try and get this never ending mess fixed and hopefully sell it to someone who will have better luck than I have. Unfortunately the market for used renegades is not very profitable so hopefully I can get some decent money for it.
What is the best tires to get for renegade. I like to drive fast so the stock size works for me and I don’t need swamp tires. I ride in the mountains so I need to have a dependable tire that doesn’t puncture easy.
I learn something the hard way today. I recently rebuilt my motor and when I reinstalled the rear drive shaft I didn’t pay attention to how the ends lined up with each other when I pushed the telescoping part together. It took me a while to figure out that the noise I heard was the drive shaft. So for anyone installing their rear drive shaft make sure to aline both ends of the shaft with each other when sliding the telescoping part together.
I was thinking of buying a 1000xxc and was looking for some input . The last quad I had was a 750 bruite force and then switched to side by sides. I see a few of post about people with motor problems on Here and was wondering if there was a common problem with them or not I have never owned a can am until a month ago when I bought my son a DS 90x . I am really interested in the renegade 1000xxc but don’t want to wrench on it all the time. Don’t get me wrong I love to tinker but don’t want to invest $12000 plus and then have a machine that needs worked on all the time. I ride mostly wooded trails in eastern us. My last performance machine was a Polaris Razor xp 900 and now have a Polaris Ranger xp 900 I’m wanting the Renegade to ride with my son due to the fact my ranger is to big for some of the trails we ride . Any input is appreciated .
Just picked up a new 2014 Renegade 1000 Xxc and am looking to add an intake and exhaust package with new ECU. I had Barker’s Exhaust on my Honda TRX700xx and was very happy with it. I am wondering if anyone here has the Barker’s on 1000 and if they are happy with it.
I am wondering if a dual exhaust system is better? Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks!

I’m running larger tires on my atv 29.5 outlaws. By know means massive tires. I have had the power steering cut out for a couple of seconds but then returns, I can really feel it when in 4×4 and in mud.
Now I was thinking of running the track module that adds another 3 setting to the power steering. The module has to have a great effect given the tracks are massive plus full of mud have to be harder to turn then my outlaws.
My power steering has worked perfect until this weekend.
So what are your thoughts on this mod?
Will the module limit my revs?
Also has anyone done a software update to your power steering?
Got my 840 kit in, got the first issue of the timing fixed, the bike then started great idled great, ran great.. I did the break in period, had no issues.. Break in consisted of idle up to temp, cool all the way down, 1/4 throttle up to temp, cool all the way down (2 rounds of that), half throttle up to temp varying rpms, cool all the way down and then drove it the next day to give some full throttle runs. Bike ran great.
Readjusted the valves after because they started ticking and they had loosened some in the break in I guess. That was squared away and the bike ran great. Then the issue of the battery draining or so I thought that was it. Replaced the stator, battery and voltage regulator and the bike still does the same thing.
On a full charge and when the bike is cold, it will start right up and idle. As soon as it warms up it begins to surge or bog down if your applying throttle. As soon as you let off the throttle it dies. When I attempt to restart it, it barely turns over as if the battery was dead. Ruled out the starter, the starter solenoid, the regulator, battery and the stator. When you turn the key on the fuel pump cycles like it should and all my connections and fuses are good.
When it was warm I heard high pitched squeak coming from the left side of the motor, like a metal on metal sound. I’m hoping a bearing isn’t spun or something to that nature. As soon as the bike cools down and the battery isn’t drained it will fire back up.
