2014 outlander 650 winch? help a noob

I just recently purchased my first can am. I picked up a 2014 outlander 650 w/dps. im coming from a Polaris sportsman so bear with me. I am looking to add a KFI 3500 stealth winch but I do not see any application for a winch mount plate?…. is my unit setup for the BRP winch only or will any winch mount up? and is there any special tricks for mounting the switch/ solenoid? I looked around the forum for a write up on my unit so if there is one post the link. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hey guys just wondering what your thoughts are on the 2015 450L with DPS. looking at buying one for the wife this week. She is somewhat new to riding and I believe this will be more then enough power for her. Thanks for any info

Complete Skid Plate

I am thinking about getting a complete skid plate kit for my 2015 outland max xt 1000. guys told me that I would need to remove the skid plate on my a arms to install my tracks at winter. is this true? also how difficult do the skid plate make it for changing oil?

Mota go POW!!

As I mentioned in the "Introduce yourself " section. I picked up a "04 Outlander XT 400 HO Thursday. I paid $500.00 for it because the decompression weight decided to play peek a boo and is now stuck in the permanent "BOO" position.

The obvious part sticking through the valve cover is what got me the deal. And thanks to a quick web search that lead me to this place I found that it is likely a simple and cheep fix.

I dug into it this afternoon and pulled what looks to be all of the parts of the weight out. It looks to have failed at the pivot point in the mechanism. When that broke it was tossed most of the way through the cover then the cam gear and chain ground their way about half way through the weight.

After I removed all of the weight pieces I reinstalled the weight mechanism on the cam (minus the weight and spring) and then dumped the oil and pulled the filter. Let me tell you there was a bunch of aluminum shavings in the filter housing. Because I found so much aluminum shavings I pulled the motor mounts and lifted the engine to gain access to the oil pump pick up screen. The screen is accessed by removing a 5 bolt pentagon shaped cover on the bottom of the engine. I’m glad I did too. The sump cover was full of shavings and about 1/3rd of the pick up screen was plugged. I cleaned the screen and cover then reassembled the sump, screen, and cover and reinstalled the motor mounts. Tomorrow I’ll pick up some cheep automotive oil and a 2nd filter so I can run it for a few minuets to flush any shavings through to the filter and then change it all again and fill it with good oil after my new valve cover gets here Tuesday.

That brings me to my question. What are you guys running for oil? I picked up can-am oil at the dealer when I got the filter Friday. The reason I ask is, I run maxima in the rest of my bikes. Any thoughts?

While I am doing this I’m going to change the diff oils. I was planning on running Royal Purple 75W-90 in the front and 75W140 in the rear. Any thoughts on that?

So it looks like I’m done working on it until the valve cover gets here. Lets hope I got a deal and don’t have to rebuild the engine. But then again if I do, then I get to build an engine!

One last thing. This cam weight failure appears to be fairly common on the 400’s. If any of you have to deal with this, I strongly recommend pulling the sump cover and screen. There was a lot of crap in there. The screen is very fine and it sure wouldn’t take much for it to plug up and starve the engine of oil.

vforcejohn clutch kit

I am about to pull trigger on vforce johns clutch kit, the arms with adjustable weights, no spring. I am 2007 outty800 xt with evo utility slip on and 26" bighorns; Will I feel a difference? Will I still be able to slowly crawl over obstacles when needed? Ideally I would like more low and mid punch be able to stand her up if I try to, but, not with just a part throttle blip. I see some guys with full primaries that can’t seem to creep and have to go really easy on throttle if they don’t want front end up in the air. That would never work with my riding style or terrain. I also don’t want to be the guy who launches his machine through the back window of his truck while trying to load her up! But when I giver her a full squeeze I want all I can get out of her.

Who’s switched from a Grizzly 700 to and Outlander???

Hello, new member here just sold my 2010 Grizzly 700 and looking to buy a 2016 Outlander 1000 XT.

The Grizzly was a good quad but extremely tippy. Yamaha lowered and widened the grizzly in 2014 then again in 2016 to help with the problem but my 2010 was not safe or fun without wheel spacers. And second the Grizzly is horribly underpowered for a big bore quad.

My question to you guys who have switched from a Grizzly to an Outlander 1000 or 800:

1. What did you like or not like?
2. Did you find the Outlander less tippy compared to the Grizzly??
3. Do you miss the separate front and rear brake levers?
4. Do you miss the Yamaha diff lock vs Visco lok QE?
5. Difference in braking going from 4 discs to 3?

Squeaky turns

2013 XT Max 800, 1300 miles. Went for a nice August weather Ozark mountain ride yesterday and camped out (doesn’t happen often in August in AR). Anyways the wheeler performed great!, 51 miles. We got home today and went to unload it and the steering squeaked from the slittiest touch of steering. Steering is noticeably more difficult than before. This is not normal. Where do y’all think I should start at first? It was greased before the ride. Thanks in advance

Fan will not turn on after rad relocate

Just recently did the rad relocate and snorkel and now when I turn the bike on the fan does not turn on. The fan freely spins, the rad hoses are hot on both ends so I think the thermostat seems to be working. I was also able to jump the relay and manually trigger the fan to come on. Probably just going to wire it to a switch in the mean time but does this mean the engine temp sensor is bad or is it something else? I don’t remember having to unplug anything going to the temp sensor but is there a plug I can check to make sure the engine temp sensor is plugged in?
