Rear end popping

Was water wheeling through a pond and heard a loud pop and now whenever you drive it she makes a popping noise coming from somewhere in the back. I’m pretty sure it’s the rear diff but could it be a transmission. Just want to be 100% sure before I spend a bunch of money fixing something that’s not the problem. Also should I Just replace the whole diff or would it be cheaper just to replace the gears inside of it?

Suddenly lacking power

So today I changed my engine oil and front diff oil on my 2014 800 Outlander XTP. I used the oil right from the dealership, so yes, it’s absolutely the right oil. I used exactly 2 liters of engine oil and it lines up perfectly on the dip stick.

When accelerating from a stop, I can’t even get the front end off the ground. There’s a lack of power, but once I’m going, the power seems to be there until it hits 45 mph, then it completely cuts out. I have no power at all above 45 mph, but between 5-45 mph it seems to have tons of power.

Only thing I can think of is I washed my funnel out before I used it to fill the oil, but I wiped it dry with a rag. There may have been a handful of water droplets left in the funnel, but it was 99% dry. I just can’t imagine such a tiny amount of water affecting it. The oil on the dipstick looks good too, not milky and not too thin.

Could that be the issue, or is it likely something else? Any ideas?

Wierdest problem – goes in reverse over 6000rpm

Hey guys!

I am new to the forum and am hoping you could help me with a wierd problem.
I have a 2008 (most possibly made in 2007) 800 model max xt efi 4×4.
When my rpm goes over 6000, somethimes the cpu thinks its in reverse and stops the trottle or the power. It’s like it cut’s my throttle for a quick sec. I can see the R in the display, so the cpu is maby acting right, but what is the orgin of this? When I have over 7000 rpm it constantly cuts rythmicly. So lying with full thottle on the freeway is impossible because of the atv cut’s power frequently.

I had a theory about the sensors on the tranny, but I have tighten those, and watched that there was no vibrational difference from 5000 to 7000, yet the power is constant without "cut’s" on 5000.

I think it’s something inside the engine that is wrong.

I have a "maintenance soon" error message followed by "High Tor Mulen". Tryed googling it but, nothing. I also tried getting out error codes (p-codes) but there werent any.

I might at some point overfilled with oil. Because the other day a lot of oil were gone without any lekage.
I also may have damaged the bearings in the cranck case while I was trying to get the clutch out without a clutch puller.
I also fully had apart the tranny and changed some bearings after runnig it dry and half totaled the tranny. The tranny is now working very good, and I can’t understand how rpm controlled cut’s can have anything to do with the tranny. It gotta be something inside the engine that is wrong…

Any Ideas? I’m out on my deapth here x)

Outlander 450L questions?

Hi guys… new here and in the market for an ATV. I’m looking at getting my kids into riding. They are 7 and 9. I am looking for something to head out into the trails with them. I have had my eye on a couple. Initally I was looking at the Polaris Sportsman 570 until I went into my local ATV shop. I was checking out some of the Can Am products. I really like the Outlander 450L. It’s in a similar price point to what I was looking to spend on the Sportsman. I am looking for something for the trails, but I also want something that has some get up and go. I just don’t want to get the 450L and have regrets because it is slow. Can anyone give me feed back on this model such as power or top speed? I know they make a 500, but it is just out of my price range for what I am looking to spend.

Thanks guys

Service Question

For the 10 hour service, I know you are supposed to change the engine oil and the gear box oil. However, is it also recommended to change the front and rear differential oils as well?

I have a 2015 outlander 800xt.

Thank you in advance for the help!

Shifting and exhaust question

I have and 07 outlander 500xt an I don’t know if it’s just me or do these things shift really notchy I had a polarus previously and I miss the way it shifts. Also Iam wanting to install and hmf slip on and need to know if I should get a fuel optimizer along with the slip on exhaust.

Rear diff oil grey and muddy coloured

Two things I have.

Thing One: I changed my diff oil myself for the first time and the rear was grey coloured with the occasional strand of black in it. I’ll put a picture up. The front was green and looked like new so I’m wondering if there’s a leak in the back and it’s filling with crud. My dealers closed or I’d call them but I’m wondering if anyone with a bad seal ever had the same looking fluid when they drained it.

Thing Two: I grabbed the wrong bottle off the bench and put 75w 90 in the gearbox instead of 140. Can I run at least a while or should I drain it and put the 140 in. That drain bolt is a BITCH.

need some tire recommendations

2014 outlander800xt running the stock xt tires now which are pretty good but they took a beating. I ride in northern Pa in the mountains, coal region and there is allot of rocks I hit after two trail rides the lugs have chunks taking out of them from rocks. Looking for another set of tires ones that can withstand the beating of Rocky trails but can give me a pretty smooth ride and can dig down in the mud when I need them too. Thanks in advance
