I splurged and picked up a new 2015 Outlander 500 L yesterday after never owning an atv but having driven a few in the past. A lot of work buddies ride trails on the weekends and I have a couple places to ride around home.
I looked at reviews for different brands and considered used vs new for a few days before coming to the conclusion that this was a good buy for $6499 (local dealer gave $500 off) plus the 5 year warranty.
My initial concerns after picking it up yesterday evening was insurance and maintenance. I added full coverage insurance today but as for maintenance goes I’m not sure yet how I’ll handle it. The guys at the dealership (which is over an hour away from me) was stressing about how to ride gentle during the 10 hour break in period, to stay in Low when driving under 15 and up hills, to use High for over 15 on straights, then bring it all the way back down to them for an expensive 24 hour turn around maintenance… I just don’t see this happening for every maintenance because of the long drive and I’m sure it’s well over priced; so what has everyone else done for their initial break in period and routine maintenance?
I’m reading in the booklet that the first 10 hour maintenance sounds pretty straight forward about checking everything and changing the oil but I’m not sure yet about the part of "Check valve clearance and adjust if needed." Are these all things I can do myself?
Anyone else already broken in this model and have any pointers or information that I may need to know, or have any issues with the quad so far?
Found a used magnesium for 11k, seems high to me. It does have only 600 miles and the only add on is after market heated grips. Searching on line high retail kbb is $8995, and nada about $9700 if I remember right.
One other question, I sold my 2011 max xtp 800, the seating was to wide, really bugged my hips. The gen 2 seems to be narrower, is this my imagination or fact?

2014 outlander 800xt putting my own snorkel set up on. I know the front pod contains the air intake, cvt intake and a few vent lines I’m guessing for the dif and trans and I know where the cvt exhaust is. What I’m wondering is if there are any other vent lines I need to bring up front. There should be a fuel vent but not sure where that is located. And any other lines? Thank you
Hi I have a 2013 outty 1000 xt and the left front brake line, right at the crimped part has broken. Looking at the library be I need it shows I can just buy the one line and hook it up. But after reading another thread it seems like the whole brake line system needs to be replaced, is there anyway around this? Tia
May have blown my 2011 outty 650xt up this past weekend. Was running it decently hard back the cottage going up that last hill on the road and started making a little noise then it died. Wouldn’t turn over got it back it started but real faintly seemed like running on one cylinder. The plugs looked fine no shavings or anything. Although I noticed it looks like oil is seeping out of the plug on the side of the case were the crank would be?
When it starts it sounds like metal rubbing. Not sure tho taking it to the dealer tomorrow. Anyone ever put 800 pistons and heads on a 650? Make much difference and what do it all intel?
Hi I have a 2007 outlander 800 with about 5700kms. Bike works a1 until it gets down a bit in gas. After it gets down a bit if I nail the throttle it will sputter take off, sputter take off it keeps doing it. Sometimes if I shut the bike off for a min or 2 it will work fine again, when trail riding never has a problem runs perfect. I just bought the bike, when I got it home it had a bit of water in the oil. I pulled the tank today thinking it might have water in it, pulled the fuel pump assembly out and the filter on the pump was pretty dirty. Cleaned it up and cleaned out tank which was fairly clean. What is the chances that the dirty filter on the pump was my problem??
I was thinking of changing the pump but local automotive stores want $200 bucks for one. Hate to put it back together then find out I got tear it apart again and put a new pump in it. Whats everyone’s thoughts?
I have a 13 outlander 650 xt anyone have 28×9.5-14 28×11-14 outlaw 2s? Or 28×10-12 front and rear silverbacks? Any rubbing or issues with either? Any info would be great. Pics would be a plus
