Educate Me on Clutches

I am in the market for a new ATV, and I am considering a Can-am. In doing my research, I’ve seen a lot of people upgrading their clutches. My question is…..why? If CVTs are so awesome (according to the propaganda), why would they need to make the modifications? I am not bashing them, I simply want to understand it to the point to see if it’s in the cards for me.

My plans are an Outlander 570 or 650, probably the Max model. I don’t plan on going taller than the factory 26" size, and my riding preferences will be basic trail riding, hunting, etc, including packing out downed game. Most of my time will be below 35 mph, and I will ride mostly 1up, with 2up on the rare occasion.

How do I know if a clutch upgrade would suit my purpose? Is this a case of squeezing or tailoring finite levels of performance, or is it a "necessity"? If a necessity, how do I know which setup is the correct one? I’m just trying to understand it.

Thank you!

No maintenance required message even well past 10hr?

Hey guys, I picked up a 2015 outlander max xt this summer and I am in love, its my first ATV of my own! I have a strange question though, when I hit 10hrs a friend and I did the 10hr service on it, had no issues, changed oil, filter and the gearbox fluid. I have had zero issues with it, but I knew I would eventually need to bring it in to the dealer if I wanted the Maintenance required message to go away if it annoyed me enough.

Well, I am now well over 10hrs, probably close to 20hrs or more and the message has still not come on. I called my dealer today and the service department was a little unsure on why it hadn’t come on yet but he told me I could bring it in and they would hook it up and check things out and that way it would be documented that the service had been done in there system, free of charge I might add which is pretty nice of them.

I am wondering, maybe the message wont come on even after 10hrs if I havent hit a certain mileage yet? I haven’t driven it very fast for very long because I was still getting used to everything about it, and trying not to die so I assume even with 10hrs it has very low miles still (ill have to double check when I get home) but I was just curious if anyone else has had this happen?

Thanks everyone!

Outlander 400 Max XT Shift Lever Broke

I have a 2013 Can-Am Outlander 400 Max XT. My shift lever broke today. I found the OEM Part and it is easy to replace but why is it so hard to shift? Also is there an aftermarket solution to this weak metal that breaks so easily.. and an aftermarket solution to the hard shifting?

2016 xmr 650 best clutching set ups

Hey guys. Obviously the mud zillas that come on the Can am from factory suck, and the stock clutches do not deliver the power the bike is capable of to the ground Thinking of getting a rage 3p stm clutch and throw some 31 outlaws on it. I know v Force John stopped making clutches. Havent really heard about CVtech…STM seems to be the best out right now. what’s yalls thoughts?!

1st gen VS 2nd gen?

Still looking for a different atv and cant decide on either a 1st gen or 2nd gen 800 outlander. Not really interested in power steering. Its nice but just something else that could break and never having ps on a quad before i wouldnt miss it anyways. Is newer always better? I have seen some really nice low mileage gen 1s for sale at a good price. Are they more reliable? easier to work on? Should I just cough up the cash for a 2nd gen?
