Guys, after much research I have decided to replace my factory 26" Carlisle 498 tires with Kenda Bear Claw HTRs. I have been really surprised with all the positive reviews on these tires. As a matter of fact, unless you run a lot of mud, I haven’t found a bad review. Now that I know the tire I want I am having a hard time deciding on what size I want. My 2013 550XP is the browning edition, I like the factory camo 14" wheels and plan to keep them. Kenda only makes a 26" or a 28" tire for a 14" wheel (I will be running a 9" wide tire on front and an 11" wide tire on rear). I love the idea of getting 28" tires to increase my clearance but I am afraid it will be too much weight for the 550. I have already had conformation that 28" will fit without rubbing so it is more of a question of wear and tear on the machine. There are about 3-4 lbs difference per tire going from a 26" to a 28" (12-16 lbs more in tires). Even with the 26" tire I will be adding 32 lbs of tires to the machine over my current factory tires. I will likely add QSC clutch kit just to try and keep the low and mid power that I have now. If I had an 850 I would put in the 28" and not even think about it. Sorry to ramble just laying it all out there. Opinions? Anyone already been down this road?
As some know I ditched the stock Carlisle’s and picked up some Reapers.
I went with 27-9-14 and 27-11-14. I purchased them through DTD and had a great experience with them for those considering ordering from them.
I had them installed on Saturday and went out riding on Sunday at M&M.
The trails were a bit frozen so I can not provide an accurate analysis of the tires but what I did experience was awesome!
The first thing I noticed was the additional ride height which was to be expected, it sits at least 1.5"s taller now! Where I would typically bottom out a bit, I had plenty of clearance.
Lots of frozen mud that I was able to power through without hesitation when coming through bends hard. All of the water holes were frozen, but we were able to bust through them and when I did sink to bottom and I was plowing the ice ahead of me, this thing really came alive! No hesitation at all getting through mud holes whatsoever! Totally different quad with these tires.
Had a guy offer me a set with steel wheels. Says the farthest he rode them was off the back of the truck on the way home from the dealership. What’s fair?
So I just recently got my new 2016 Polaris Sportsman 450 HO and was looking around for things like tires, possibly rims, snorkel kit, clutch kit, pipe, etc but I can’t find anything or anyone that makes things for my model, etc. Does anyone know the explanation for this and can help me out with additional links and also additions to the new rig.
MY QUESTIONS ARE:
What size tires should I get?
What tires should I get? (I go in mud and swamps)
Best clutch kit?
Best snorkel kit?
Guys I installed 30 inch Zillas on 14 inch rims on my bike. 2 inch highlifter lift and a Dalton cluth. Underneath was good but replaced the bushings. 2009 Polaris 800 Touring – she’s a beast now works great.
Stock Axles – 300 km no issues.
A few of the guys in the club are telling me I should move back to 27 x 14 inch tires or I will start snapping axels. Nothing is hitting I am not overly crazy.
Any opinions – a set of Rhino’s aint cheap…. I have a set backordered but am wondering if I really need them
Okay, so I am going to try the Artrax CTX tires (big horn replica type). Almost everything I have read has been positive and the price is good. But, I can’t make up my mind on 25 bias or 26 radials. So gonna throw it out to you guys for some thoughts and opinions. Yes, I know its ultimately up to me, but I like to hear suggestions. I know I only gain 1/2 inch in ground clearance going to the 26s. But is the extra width really worth it? I don’t really do the cosmetic thing so if there is no real gains, I don’t see the point in going up. I ride in oklahoma, mostly dirt trails with rocks, tree roots, creek crossings with some occasional slimmy mud (i stay out of the deep mud) and some areas has lots of rocks like Cross bar Ranch.
So here is what I have been able to find on the tires by searching around the internet and asking through PMs. Motosport doesn’t have the info posted. All tires are rumored to be true to size, if not a little bigger. Tread depth is approx 1 inch. These will be going on a 2015 570 touring EPS with the factory steel wheels.
