Opinion on Carlisle ACT xlr tires?

I need to replace stock act tires. Sidewall puncture. Right away I’m thinking Carlisle might not be a good tire. But it handles great and I’ve definitely had some fun in the mud.
So after hours of research I come full circle to the 6 ply version of stock. Has tougher sidewall apparently.
And I haven’t called around locally but I’m pretty sure the Carlisle xlr will be cheaper than pitbull growlers which was my second choice.
Also the weight is only about 5lbs more per tire(xlr) as opposed to growler about 12lbs more per tire than stock. Since I have a 570, tire weight is something I should be thinking of.
Anyone run these??

whats the deal with 28’s ?

reading through many threads on different sites seems as though people are staying away from 28 outlaws ? either go to 29.5 or 27 . I don’t get it . I want outlaws but 27s seem to be a bit small and 29.5 seem to be a bit much . I thought 28s would be perfect but all the reviews are stating otherwise…. any input on this ?
I am also interested to see outlaws on stock xt rims . Ive only found 1 picture after surfing the whole net .

30x14x9 silverback tire pressure

looking for what everyone is running their silverbacks at ?

My dad keeps on popping beads on the 800 with 7 psi, I’ve never had a problem with running 7 psi but I also drive aggressive, he on the other hand is methodical and likes to roll into stuff. have searched for a couple days and have found that a lot of people run 4-5 psi or are on the other end of the spectrum and run 15+

We ride a lot of clay mud and rarly see more then 40 km/h on the trail

ITP Blackwater help

I’m deciding on whether to buy 28×14 blackwaters or 27×12 blackwaters. They will be mounted on itp ss212 rims. Does anyone know if the 28’s will fit without rubbing? 27’s should be fine but I want to go bigger if I can. They will go on my 2014 outlander 800r XT.

ITP Ultracross question.

It is getting close to time to replace the stock tires on my 13 800r MAX XT. I do NOT ride on mud. Mostly Montana and Nevada hard rock trails. I have been looking at the Maxxis Bighorn tires. But I saw a review of the ITP Ultracross tires. Look like they would wear well on the hard pack trails. Anyone have them>>??

Need tire advice for 800r XT

I have a 2015 800r XT with elka shocks. I like to ride fast on trails, some off trail stuff thru the forest (over logs, stumps, etc), then occasionally water holes and mud. I would say 70% trail riding though. We recently bought a new place in Northern MI and the area is really sandy. I would like to go with something bigger than stock, but not so huge that it looses stability in corners etc. I will also be using it for plowing snow as well, if that matters.

I was thinking of some 28" Zilla’s on 14" MSA Diesel wheels. Is this a dumb thought? I am open to suggestions so fire away.

New Pitbull Growler BG2.5 Tires

So after two weeks trying to decide on new tires I finally decided on a set of Pitbull Growlers and new wheels. I read every thread and review I could on different tires and had originally thought I wanted more of a mud/trail tire. I had narrowed my choices to Zillas and Mega Mayhems (I would have chosen the Megas if I went that route). Then I thought a more all purpose trail tire was what I needed so I looked at Bearclaw HTR’s and Bighorns (leaned toward the HTR’s). After stressing myself for weeks I decided to bite the bullet and go for the Pitbulls. They kept popping up in numerous threads but seemed to be regarded as a premium tire due to the cost. It’s very hard to find a negative review on either of the Pitbulls (Growlers or Rockers).

My riding is mostly trails consisting of hard pack, rock, mud holes, water crossings, steep hills as well as ice fishing. The Pitbull seemed to be my best option. I went with the Growler BG2.5 which is their less expensive 6ply version which was on sale as a package with some MSA wheels which I thought looked amazing. The tires are MUCH bigger than my stock 26" ACT’s. I went with the 26x9x12 fronts and 26x11x12 rears.

New vs old fronts…

New vs old rears…

The rear width has increased by about 4" overall and the Pitbulls stick out about 2" past my mud guards.

I can’t wait to try them out but today is the last day to ride our trails so it looks like I may have to wait for ice fishing season.

Mega Mayhems vs Zillas

I know this topic has been beat to death and believe me I have read every possible thread I can find on the topic, however I’m still having a hard time deciding between these two tires.

I have a 2010 650 Max XT with stock tires. I got a sidewall puncture last weekend on some rocks and I’m using that as an excuse to get some decent tires. I feel like I have narrowed my choices to the 27" Mega Mayhems or Zillas. I live in Ontario, Canada and the majority of the riding I do is hard pack trails, dirt, rock crawling, water crossings, steep hills and whatever mud holes I come across on the trails. I also use the bike for ice fishing so snow traction is also important.

I’m not an extremely aggressive rider nor do I spin the tires or drift around corners. I want something that will do well in the mud but still be good in most trail conditions.

I have been leaning towards the Megas because from what I’ve read the sidewalls are stronger and the lugs appear to be closer together than the Zillas. This leads me to believe they may be better for rock crawling because less of the carcass is exposed like on the Zillas.

Has anyone run both of these and can offer a recommendation for the type of riding I do? I don’t go looking for mud but I’d like to be able to tackle whatever I encounter on the trail. Northern Ontario has a good amount of mud and rock and we travel up there a couple times a year.

Thanks!
