2008 Sportsman 500 Overheating Issues

Couple days ago while riding the HM Trails in WV while climbing back up the mountain my fan locked up and the engine started to overheat. Tried to hard wore the fan and it was completely shot. Went to the local Advance Auto and picked up an universal 12" fan. Everything worked great except yesterday while riding the same trails at almost same point the same thing happened. Once we got back to camp I started it up and let it get to temperature just to see what would happen and the fan came on through a few cycles just as it normally would. Any suggestions on what’s going on? Possibility the electric fans have a kill switch in the motor once they get too hot?

Is my ATV is playing mind games with me?

I’ll give a brief description of an electrical issue on a 05 Trail Boss I’ve been chasing for over a year that has eventually gotten to a point it wont run. Ive posted before on this issue and have got some good feed back, but discovered something new today. Started off ATV would just stop running after a half hour. When you turned the key nothing would happen like you removed the battery. Then a few minutes later it would start up and be good for another 1/2 hour. Its now at the point that if it will start it seems to cut out as soon as you put it in gear and attempt to drive off. One thing that I noticed during this entire time was that when key was is on position if the green neutral light was lit it would start, if the light did not come on you knew it wasn’t gonna crank over or do anything. When the atv is running it runs great. Also the headlights will turn on then shut off after about 5 seconds when it wont crank. Over the last year I replaced ignition switch, ECM and stator. I swapped out from a running trail boss the cdi, gear indicator sensor and battery. None of this has fixed my problem.

Today I made an interesting discovery. The atv wouldn’t do nothing like the battery was stolen out of it. I must have left the key in the on position, about 5 minutes later I noticed the green neutral light on and like the past it fired right up and ran great. When I put it in gear it stalled and again acted like if it was missing the battery. So I left the ignition on again and within 2 minutes green neutral light came on and it fired right up. This time I let it run for 30 minutes idled and reeved up great. When I attempt to drive it and cut out within 10 yards of driving it. I cant find any relays, circuit breakers or fuses and Ive been told their are none on this model. Im at a loss anybody have any ideas?

87 trail boss running problem

Ok I have an 87 trail boss 250. Was running fine then started bogging down real bad through mid throttle and smoking real bad like it was out of fuel [it’s still oil injected]. Would idle fine and wide open throttle was fine only had a problem in mid throttle. Cleaned carb filter plug no change. Sprayed everything down with brake clean looking for an intake leak and found that the base gasket under the jug was sucking air. Sprayed it and it died instantly every time. Tore it down and replaced the gasket. Can spray it down now and it just purrs. Runs a lot better. But still acts a little sluggish in mid throttle. Any ideas?????? Fouled plug maybe??
